Alrighty folks, I'M BACK. I've been away from the forums for a while, but I'm gonna try to pull myself back. Got outta the scoot life for a while and I've not been happy... so I'm resurrecting my Kymco ZX50 to ignite my fire again.
I just pulled the trigger on a liquid cooled 86 cc kit (50mm bore, 44mm stroke). Been wanting to make the switch to liquid cooled for a while and found my chance to do so.
Back to the main topic: I NEED A CDI. I popped a hole in my perfectly tuned, well running motor and I totally suspect the CDI has failed and threw the spark much too advanced. I could use my spare OEM CDI again, as that's what I'm using now... but I'm shaking the tree to see if there's any better fruit.
I may be interested in a mini rotor system, as long as it can charge the battery somewhat as I'll be using a 12 volt water pump.
Anyone have great success with any specific CDI or ignition system for DIO?

Glad you are back!
I have the HPI mini rotor iggy on my 120cc LC. It is ok but only charges 60W I have to put my battery on charge after rides. If you order the HPI you will need a different flywheel, the one they send with it does not fit even though it is supposed to. The HPI is also a hassle to set up because there is no keyway on the flywheel.
Any AC CDI should work on the stock setup if you get it wired right, I think the stock Kymco CDI is 15 degree flat. I have a GY6 CDI as a spare that was on one of my ZX scoots when I bought it and it seems to work fine. Cut your plugs off of the stock iggy and splice them into the new one.
I had one of the generic mini rotors quite a while back, it seemed to be intermittent so I took it off and put the stock back on. IMO the stock iggy is fine for up to 10-11K

But I will be running a 12 volt pump, not sure what the draw is of that little guy so I'll need something that can keep my battery topped up with my all day weekend rides. So, for now it'll be stock stator, fly wheel and new CDI

I run the Bosch pump on mine. The battery voltage slowly drops on a long ride. I should convert to all LED lamps but they burn out rather quickly due to poor voltage regulation I suppose.

I've already done the full LED conversion. Headlight is a cheapo and SUCKS but oh well, the dual LED tail light bulbs are super bright!
I have a timing light now, woohoo!! Been tuning for years without one but now I have one. I can check Kymco vs Minarelli, have used Minarelli on a few ZXs, I think it's slightly retarded vs Kymco.
