So I tried starting the Ice Bear after months in the unheated shed. Last Fall I put in a BBK. It worked well. It had the problem of not starting last year and I found it was due to water in the gas tank. I added Heet and solved the problem. This time I tried starting it and it didn't start. I remembered the Heet so I added some to the gas tank. It turned over briefly but then nothing. I kept cranking it til I could sell gas but it never fired up. I know it has spark and I know it has gas. But it won't start. The gas smell was strong so I might have flooded it. I'll let it sit for a while then try again.
Assuming I can't get it to turn over, any suggestions what to do? I thought I might try squirting gas into the cylinder. I've done that to motorbikes and sometimes it would work. I wonder if that could be dangerous to a 80cc cylinder.
Thanks in advance for any ideas.

I would drain the old fuel if it has been in the tank for months, and replace with fresh fuel. I likely would drop the float bowl and check that the pilot jet is not stopped up. I would also check that the tiny port to the byvalve pickup tube bore is open to allow fuel to fill the bore for the byvalve to use when cold. Tiny hole needs to be clear and a bit of time after letting fuel into the float bowl so the tube has fuel to use. After replacing the float bowl and allowing fuel to fill it(apply suction to the petcock vacuum line), I would try to start. Give the throttle a couple flips to WOT. Try to start w/o touching any controls. The enrichment system should make it start readily. The flips of the throttle should work the accelerator pump to squirt just a dash of fuel into the intake. tom

Thanks. I understand all that needs to be done but I can't take the cold anymore. I'm from Wyoming. Wyoming is a native Shoshonee word meaning, 'goddamn windy place'. I dealt with the wind for 40 years but I can't anymore. I don't know whether that means I'm finally smart or just a whiny bitch.
That said, I tried starting it and it fired up instantly. I still plan to replace the gas and flush the lines and rebuild the carb. But not til it's less wintry-windy.

Some WY driveways are a half hour ride on a scoot to go get the mail. If you don't get blown over on the way there or back. Have fun. tom
