I did a 70cc upgrade to haul my fat arse around easier and since the larger bore, piston, etc I find that the battery won't spin the starter fast enough to start it, Yes... even a brand new battery with about 12.8 volts! So I read these batteries are only 80 cca and while we are limited by a small battery box, is there a solution? Maybe a better battery with higher cca's? Any suggestions? I can kick it over easy and it runs great but the engine has a lot more compression now and the E-Start... wont! Help!

What kit did you fit? Some where you use the standard head, like the Naraku have really high compression. A lot of the standard fitment batteries like Yuasa only have 45 CCA. You can get higher which helps. A new battery should be about 13V. A larger battery isn't really the answer I'm afraid. The charging system won't be up to it.

I’ve had a top trophy kit & a s6 street race on 2 different zumas & both would start with the e start. Have a top kit on a vino now & it’ll start with the e start too & it has a very tiny battery.

I bought the "Malossi Sport 70cc cylinder ZUMA /Genuine/ Minarelli Horizontal" 70cc kit from a scooter place in Portland. I can feel the higher compression on the kickstarter too. Maybe I'm just stuck kickstarting it. The battery I have is 80 cca, which is, from what I can tell, what they all are for that size battery. I thought maybe I could go with a LiPo batt and get more juice but you're right, the charging system on these is weak.

I've just ordered a higher output battery today. What's fitted as standard to Yamaha 50cc mopeds in Europe is terrible. The highest replacement I've found is 85CCA, then the Motobatt at 70CCA. I've never had any trouble starting a Polini sport or stage 6 street race on a high output battery. I've the Naraku 70cc kit now and that starts fine. I know on the four strokes they struggle. Some have found a better ground makes a difference. Perhaps that's worth a look at trying.
