Hey there. I'm in the middle of shimming my scooter cus the belt is a few mm wider than the opening on my drive boss. I installed about 1,5mm of shims and then I assembled the case again, but then I try to start it and the Kickstarter won't go back up. It stays stuck down and I don't know why, but maybe the drive face has been pushed too far into the Kickstarter case and it always grips. If anyone can shed some light on it and have any tips then you're more than welcome to comment them as they would really help me. Thanks in advance!!

are you certain that the boss is clearing the CVT cover? It may be touching

As I wrote in the post, I think the extra width may be pushing the little Kickstarter gear so it's always on the pinion gear. But how do I make that not happen?

Have you tried using less shims? If your old belt is really worn. It's possible the new belt doesn't need so much shims. Did you push the new belt down into the rear pulley when fitting it?

I've tried using less Shims but it keeps sticking until I remove all the shims. I've made sure that it isn't pinching the belt at all but it still happens

When you say that the belt is wider than the drive boss opening? What do you mean? Are you saying that there is no side gap between the belt and the drive pulley sheaves? Reason I ask is because people who are familiar with snowmobile CVT's would expect to see a side gap. These GY6 type CVT's don't have a side gap and the belt sits up in the sheaves and off the boss. It is not supposed to "walk" all the way down to the boss during use. Part of the CVT "tuning" would be to decide how far down you want the belt to "walk". Is that what your doing?

I think I understand what you mean, and in that case, yes. I'm trying to get the belt to go more down, so it starts lower in idle, and I get a better acceleration. I can't even use a 0.1mm shim without the Kickstarter sticking onto the star, which I think is a bit weird, but screw it I'll just give up on it and accept that I'll have to live without shims.
