Hey everyone, so I bought a 50cc 2 stroke minarelli powered scooter. It’s a 2010 flyscooter hero 50. Back when I worked at the scooter shop my coworker broke the stator. And surprise, it’s basically obsolete. So it’s been sitting for a long time, but my car recently broke and I really need something to get around until I can get a new car. So I’m wondering if it’s possible to swap a 150cc gy6 hopefully but I’ll even do a 50cc gy6 swap! If it’s possible what is everything I would need to do it? I know the engine and all of the other parts like the carburetor and etc. and probably a new harness, but will I be able to wire it all up to the ignition and push start and all of that? Or will all that need to be changed as well?

Yeah but the one on my scooter is only a 5 wire stator. It has the same 3 wire plug, but then it has 2 individual female plugs. The 2 plug connector isn’t on it and it’s missing a female connector

Believe me, I have been looking for months and months, and when it broke I was a mechanic at a scooter dealer. So I had an unlimited supply of parts and sources and still couldn’t find one

Oh shit, you’re pretty good at this lol. But I was wrong actually it’s only a 4 wire stator, but still looks just like this one, it has the 3 wire plug, and a single female connector! It’s wierd because the stator side the wire is red black, but it plugs into a blue wire on the harness on my scooter.

Wire colors vary, match up wire functions. Ground wires are sometimes omitted. Stator frames ground themselves to the engine which is usually grounded to the scooter frame. Some stator wires are grounded to the stator frame. As a competent or real scooter mechanic you should know this and know how to match wire functions.

Yeah that’s the thing, when I started working there I knew nothing about scooters. The only mechanic skills I had was modifying BMW, Honda, and ford cars which I have been doing my whole life but I never went to school so I only what I know. But I learned a lot when I worked there, but funny thing is none of the mechanics knew anything about the electrical part of the scooters. They actually had to hire a electrical guy because we had like 10 scooters all piled up with electrical problems that none of us knew how to fix

1st statement: i went too school, but nothing technical (i did humane sciences and math/physics). I learned everything i know about cars/scooters/… by reading manuals and working on them. So i’m sure you can figure out what cable goes where. as for sta tement 2: please remind me never to go to that shop. If you don’t know anything about electrical bits, don’t bother looking at whatever it is you’re wanting to ‘repair’ to take my money. This would mean they can ‘t even diagnose a non running scooter as they wouldn’t know how to verify\check the ignition, or they’d just be replacing random items in hopes of getting it fixed…
now, as for your question. Mounting any other engine under a scooter, will require modifying the frame\mounting points. It will also most likely become a hassle to service certain parts, as you might not have access to it without removing certain parts (or the engine altogether).
Is it possible? Yes. has it been done before? Heck yes do i recommend it? Not really, fix the stator, it’ll be a LOT less effort.

Is yours an AC or DC CDI? DC CDIs get power from the battery. AC CDIs get power from an exciter coil in the stator. Some of the DC stuff would have 1 less wire from the stator, because it doesn't need that exciter wire. Exciter coils are typically the ones that you see wrapped in fiberglass, not bare like the charging and lighting coils.
A lot of times the 3 wire plug is the charging and lighting section of the wiring. The additional wires are usually pickup and exciter. You can look at it and see where they come from. As said, don't worry about matching colors to the bike's harness. Sometimes they don't match up that way.
