I wouldn't have any idea which CDI you should have. Tom, GrumpyUnk may have a better idea.

6th post, I mentioned that Kymco scooters regularly use DC CDI modules. Get a schematic and look. Or get a parts list and check. A DC CDI needs a fully charged battery to function. An AC powered CDI does not need a battery to work. There are more leads from the flywheel area for an AC CDI as the juice is generated by another winding on the stator assembly, and fed by wire to the CDI. A DC powered CDI gets its power from the battery, so you should be able to trace the wire back(likely through the ignition switch) to the battery + terminal. Some may have kickstand interrupt switches to prevent starting with the bike on the stand... tom

Joshua, nice point on the "outside" it is bad...however, I live in Panama a lot (1/2) of the time. I work for Doc' w out borders, which should be renamed doc's with many borders after my last trek through 24 countries, repeating some... Now, I have a garage, the gringa 'white chick' next to me has a garage, and I have never seen another garage around. But, everyone has a scooter. No-one can afford a car or gas.
In Asia there must be 1 billion scoots and in India a million, and again, I have never seen a garaged one. They are also usually like a 1990, and still manage to run and drive them, with a goat on back, or maybe the goat is driving, I am not sure half of the time.
I saw an old youtube video of some dude that had just turned 1,000,000 miles on his scoot. Now I can only guess at how many parts and rebuilds that had! Possible, but not probable. I tell you, I was always a Triumph, Norton guy. I may be the only living person to have gotten 100,000 miles out of an old, ungaraged, 1969 Tiger. Again, I can't tell you how many parts I put on it, and JB weld on it. I rode it from Houston to Nicaragua one time with a dunlop around me for a spare. Blew a cylinder. The guy said 5 gallons of gas to clean the engine parts and 50 bucks. 11,000 miles later, driving to Galveston, flames blew out the tailpipe. I remembered this and thought, damn, why didn't I ever go through the engine when I got back? Stupid question, it ran. I pulled off the pistons in 30 minutes and I swear I saw Juan Valdez! I thought about it and studied it. Yes, he braised a coffee can into the cylinder and it worked. Single carb wasn't that fast anyway until I put a Jap Mikuni carb on it. With new pistons, and cylinders of course, and a lot less tequila.
Now back on the subject. I have the perfect running TaoTao powermax. I just decided while I am waiting for CDI and a battery to try both new CDIs on it. Surely it's an AC performance CDI, and surely my Kymco is 100% a DC, it has battery voltage supplied to it, so...damn, no! Neither worked on the Powermax. The issue however was, the starter would not even turn over. WTF? That stumps me even more. I'll take my 8 wire triumphs any day over this mess. So far kicks and giggles tomorrow I will determine if the Taotao is DC as well. My thought is maybe I blew both new (wrong) CDIa.
I can't drive this Tiawanese bike a mile without someone wanting it. I will let it go this time. It has always been flawless, until I decided to put a 9.99 PERFORMANCE, CDI on it, lol. I worked 5 miles away. I don't now so I needed the 150.

You may have a patient that knows someone that can fix your scoot AOK.
If a person takes some time and smears electrical connections with some silicone dielectric grease or at least some plain grease the electrical systems do ~OK. I bet the places that run bajillions of them know all the tricks. Those 'performance' CDI units are pieces of shit made for stupid Americans. The plain factory stock parts are much better.
One of my auto mechanics instructors told a story about how he lost a rod bearing on a truck in the middle of nowhere then just cut the rod, and jammed the lifters/pushrods to close the valves to deactivate that cylinder, and drove it on out to California.
Last year I bought a used riding lawnmower with a trashed ignition switch. I disconnected all of those bogus 'safety interlock' wires and installed a new generic ignition switch solving most of the problems youtube vids reported. I also added some spacers and bushings to the steering rack. Some scoots have safety interlocks that contribute problems that can also be eliminated.

Check the engine ground wire and connections also. The engine ground completes the circuit for the starter, ignition, and ~stator power. When the engine ground wire goes bad it can burn out the stator ground connection also.
Joshua, good luck with that gold CDI. Those usually have a short life. -Carry a spare.

JJoshua, I give you 500 points! Convertable to Colones in Costa Rica! If you had not mentioned CDI is DC or AC I would have set this damn thing on fire! I got the new CDI in today, stock part. DC is much bigger. SO!!!! 1st push of the start button, it started! I wasn't ready for that! I am old school magneto, coil, points. I never heard of an AC CDI! That defeats the purpose of generator vs alternator. Oh well, perfect. 200 charging volts, new muffler, new stator new coil plug etc. It is such a perfect bike! I hope it goes 1 MPH faster but oh well, if it don't. Thanks guys! After I had perfect readouts on stator, pulse, ohms, and everything else. I had 100% confidence it was perfect. I think FrankenMech talked about cutting a rod, hell yeah. I heard, not witnessed, a guy who used a wooden stick he whittled down to round, and got his Defender out of Africa. If you all remember sew-up tires!? I was in Mexico w a dentist and a stick went in his forearm. I used tar infused sew-up three to give him 164 stitches! LOL! He still brags about that horrific scar!!
In Africa, your life depends on it!!

OK for future posts. IF YOU USE AC CDI with a DC STATOR! You burned the CDI! TRASH PILE! No Spark to coil!! Remember! CDI! If you use a bad CDI on a power max the starter will not even turn over or engage, ever damn Chinese scooter is different! Buy a Tiawanese or Japanese if you can!!, the starter will not engage!! An AC CDI Stator bike will start with a NO battery situation, don't believe the posts, the BAD battery may suck the juice out of a kick start, remove a terminal. Remove the terminals and it MAY start!
No spark to coil! Remember to check the bike for PROPER components. Get OEM if you can! No, the lights do not only turn on if DC powered. The wiring is like a crack house after dark! They may have auxilury wiring from the battery! Remember! These bikes sell for 561.00 dollars, buy a few and sell them, you will run a business with your income!! Thanks brothers, and Joshua and FrankenMech and Grumpyunk! GOD Bless YOU all, with Biden for another 4 years we will all ride scooter!! I work for Elon, so I am independent but, I can spot stupid!!
