I just bought a 2005 Yamaha Zuma and I am having a very tricky problem with the cvt. The front pulley of the cvt (stage 6 sport pro Variator) won’t close and the rear pulley (stock pulley with polini clutch and bell) won’t open it’s just stuck in a very low gear not able to give the clutch enough rpm to engage till a very very high rpm due to the yellow springs. But the weirder part is when I took a known working Variator along with the belt of another Zuma the same exact thing would happen. I know it isn’t my clutch/pulley because I tested it on another bike and worked perfectly.
Thank you guys in advance

What contra spring & rollers are you running? Very light rolllers or a very stiff contra will make it take a lot of rpm to engage.

Sounds like a contra spring that's too strong, with heavy clutch springs. The variator won't move if the rest pulley isn't opening. You should be able to pull the pulley apart with hands on either side fairly easily unless you are running a race setup. The variator should slide easily with no binding of the slides when off the bike.

I’m running a mixed weights of 4 and 5 grams with a dark blue contra spring It’s just very weird because the same clutch/pully and bell setup worked fine on my other bike with 5 and 6 mixed gram rollers on a stock Variator
The Variator moves freely on the bike the rear pulley I can squeeze with my hand not to easily but I can. I have to run spacers on the front of the crank because there is about a quarter inch left of spline I wonder if your supposed to run the spacer behind the Variator to make sure the belt is inline with the rear pulley if you have any suggestions on what I should do please let me know very stuck on this

So I just placed the shims on the rear of the Variator made no difference but I took the rear clutch assembly off my other bike and it went about 25 still wouldn’t pull the belt all the way up but a whole lot better then before still have no clue what is going on
