Fuel gauge reading 1/4 tank high Pushing down on float gives 1/4 tank Pulling up on float gives well over full. Is it the gauge or sender unit?

Probably just need to pull the needle off the gauge and reposition it

I'd pull the sender out and give the rheostat a good spraying with carb cleaner. Try not to tear the gasket. While you have it out you can plug it in and see if you fixed it.

If you connect the two wires together. The gauge should read full. If it doesn't, it's likely the gauge, or a bad wire. My BWS had a sender unit that was round with a float inside. It was prone to sticking as there were lots of little fingers inside for the float to slide up and down on. Yours might be different.
