unknown part in piston kit

Hello everyone,

I purchased a new piston kit due to low compression on my Vento Zip 49cc scooter however there's an extra part in the kit. Please see the picture and notice the 12 sided circular tension spring. I'm assuming this spring is intended to go under one of the piston rings but can anyone confirm that and do you know if it should go under the upper or the lower piston ring?

There are a few kits like this. My Naraku kit was like that and if I remember correctly it went under the lower ring.
Your picture is not working.
It's easy to tell which ring it goes under, as the dugout for the ring is deeper. I know a lot of people never bother fitting them.
