The boppers are not bad tires for the price. It still amazes me you can buy them after all these years. But if it ain't broke. 👍 The big tread tires are quite heavy. So if not balanced properly can vibrate quite a bit.

Some updates since last time... Stepped the main jet down from 106 to 100 and threw in a new plug. I also got the Boppers and had them put on. What a good/cheap tire! Really happy with them. Got a good amount of seat time in and did some more testing. Top speed with the above was around 63mph. I decided to try the pink/stage6 extra soft torque spring from my prebug just for S&G's and it seemed much smoother than the malossi white. A little bit quicker too. Did some Dragy runs and sure enough, the butt dyno was right and I saw a new top speed of 67mph and PR 1/8th mile of 11.85s. Still only seeing max temps of 275º or so - which is either that this is running very rich still, OR the temp gauge isn't working right. I pulled the temp gauge off and checked the plug, sure enough, she is still running pig rich or oil fouling or something. I've been running Motul 800 @ 40:1 so going to step down to 50:1 and see how that goes with a fresh plug. Also wanted to check the temp sensor to make sure it was accurate. I had run this on my prebug and found it to be reading about 50º low on that build but decided to give it another try on this one. I boiled some water and ran it out to the garage, and measured it with both the sensor and my kitchen meat thermometer. Sure enough it's spot on. So... maybe temps ARE accurate... not sure.

Ordered some additional pilot and main jets for the CP and did some more fine tuning over the past week. Ended up settling on a 36 pilot and 104 main. The plug I found out had been oil fouling. There was a time or two that I went to fill up the tank and could only fit .85 or so gallons in the tank and dumped in my whole little thing of oil that was preset for 40:1 mix for one gallon and I think that was enough to foul the plugs. Going to be more careful now and switch to 50:1 anyway. I got things where I wanted them to be temperature-wise and did some more 1/8th miles runs. Several days of this and I could not get anything better than 11.6x seconds. We had some pretty cool temps this past Friday night so I took it out Saturday morning and was finally able to snag an 11.56 1/8th! Top speed is about 68mph, so close to my goal of 70, but I have a few more tricks up my sleeve to get there. Might up the roller weight a tad to get there. I'm sitting at 5.25g rollers now and will probably mix them with 5.7g. You might also hear an exhaust leak in that video. I was suspecting something was up - either silencer packing going bad (which would have been super quick) or something. Decided to take the pipe off and sure enough, the crush gasket was spent. I ended up using another crush gasket and two flat gaskets putting it back together. I'm not a fan of it but for now its sounding better and holding. The whole piaggio exhaust header connection is uncharted territory for me. The Polini pipe header flange has this mushroom bump design and it makes for an interesting connection. Problem with this bike of mine is that the header flange, when seated like it wants to be, ends up making contact with the center frame/swingarm brace and I have to cock it a little bit toward the front of the bike for the pipe to clear. Been talking with a buddy on Facebook and he says the 4 race pipe is one of the only pipes designed this like and I could look into cutting the swingarm and replacing with two sets of bolts on either side. I'd rather not do this but might have to. Also, cleaned the old girl up and got some glamour shots in the driveway. I'm loving this bike so far!

Yes you shouldn't need a gasket on there really. If we were all happy with 35MPH. We wouldn't have these problems. 🤔

Had a little mini-deviation from this thread here to figure out an exhaust leak/gasket issue. So linking from here in case I or others need to come back and check it out. 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/32389/piaggio-typhoon-swingarm-hitting-exhaustBasically, the Polini for Race 4 pipe has a somewhat unique mushroom shaped header flange that causes some issues and make it prone to exhaust leaks. Today my amazon crush gaskets and scootertuning gaskets both came in the mail same day. The ones from scootertuning seemed like they would work better so I threw on a Naraku gasket. Was about to take the bike for a quick spin and... rain. Literally right as I was about to grab my helmet, it picked up - so tomorrow, we test. For now, just wanted to share a pic of the angle this flange sits at. For whatever reason, I can't actually get the thing to seat in a plumb position, straight on to the cylinder. Here is the best pic I could grab, but, hoping this doesn't become an issue. No matter how hard I try, I can't get it to tighten down straight on, it wants to sit this way.

That's waay off! The spigot flange needs the tube to be cut and angled forward to match the pipe angle. Then welded in that position..

Been talking with a buddy on facebook who is having the same issue with the same pipe. We were talking just last night about this exact thing. I should have mentioned this in my previous post, but the picture makes it look much worse than it really is and like the flange isn't even seated on the one side - it is, it's just not straight on. But yeah, I agree, it should be better than this. I'm going to try to take it out today and see how it holds up. We'll see. Might be giving my local welding shop a visit! Edit to add: this is basically what we're talking about, right?

One more thing... with the adjustability of the brackets in the rear that hold the exhaust to the engine case, I'm pretty sure I am able to get things jiggered and adjusted so that the pipe does sit angled up enough and "straight on" to the cylinder. I may try tightening down the rear hardware first then tightening down the flange in the front. Either way, this whole setup doesn't seem ideal and I do just wish it was a flat flange with flat gasket. Love the pipe, but this is making me miss the simplicity of the flat flange design like I have on my Prebugs and Vento.

I only tried a couple of pipes on my typhoon. But they bolted right up no problems. Good job Yasuni. Getting the mounting nuts on was a nightmare though. You couldn't get your fingers in there. And there was no straight path for an extension. It was also partly blocked by the catalytic converter on the standard pipe too. Scooters are so fun to work on. 🤔

I can use a regular 10mm with extension on the left side but on the right I have to use a smaller one with universal joint or swivel socket. Fun times 😭 All things considered, still loving this bike and it sure beats wrenching on my race prebug.

Your drawing is correct. The pipe should be under no stress when bolted down or it'll crack.. If you can't find anybody close by I'll weld it up for you after it is cut and fitted..

Thanks I appreciate that. I’m sure I’ll be able to find someone local I just worry about it costing an arm and a leg. Are you located in the states? For a second (and that’s about it), I thought about using JB Weld LOL.

Alright, we're in business and the exhaust leak has been fixed! I ended up stopping by an exhaust shop on a whim and just walking in and seeing if they could help. They are in town I've used them in the past for some muffler work on the cars. When I described what I needed done, the guy said "Ok! $100, we can handle you right now." I sort of gave a blank stare and after a few seconds he was like "Yeah I see that nice apple watch you have on, you have money." I was about to walk out and after a split second after that he goes "Just kidding man, I'll do it for free, just leave us a google review when you leave." BOOM, DONE! It wasn't the prettiest, but it was free and after a little bit of grinding and brushing, just as good as anywhere else. Here are some pictures before and right after having it welded: In the meantime, the storms are hitting us here on the east coast and I won't be able to ride for the next few days. Just threw on a Polini evo clutch bell I had ordered a while back and might do some other things like install front turn signals, finally. I still need to do a few more fine tuning tweaks. I really wanted 70+ mph out of this build and as it stands, I still have only seen 68mph on flat ground. Close! Part of me just wants to bite the bullet and get a new crank and throw on a stage6 mk2 race cylinder, but I know what I have now is much more reliable and streetable. I'm not sure what the Hiper2 engines from Piaggio can handle as far as stock crank goes but as I understand it, they are stronger than Minarelli - and good for about 11-11.5k rpm. After all this trouble with the pipe, maybe that's my next move, something that revs a little higher, this one doesn't like much over 10.5k rpm.
