Hi, i have a problem with my chinese scooter (yiben yb50qt-15). The tail light and dash lights arent working, brown cable that goes to the tail light is in continuity with ground. Ive changed the stator because one screw got loose and destroyed the coils on it. Voltage regulator is intact, headlights are working properly, but the bulbs were blown, aswell as bulb from the taillight. Brake light, turn signals etc. works fine.

A lot going on here. Lights aren't working: You say the bulbs are blown. If you ran the system without the RR connected, it typically will blow out the bulbs, did that happen? Brown taillight power wire shows ground? If you're metering through an incandescent bulb, it will show a "near ground" condition because it has just a few ohms of resistance. Disconnect the bulb while doing wire metering. Of course, if you blew out the bulb, it is now disconnected by default. New stator: did you get the appropriate stator? The stator and RR have to match each other, and they both require the compatible wiring configuration in order to work properly

I cannot test the first point atm, sorry.
I disconnected the plug from the tail light, and it shows ground on the male plug that goes from the scooter to the tail light connector. I've checked the connectors in the front and the yellow wire that goes to lights switch shows no voltage. Stator is the same as i was using earlier, so no problem here. The RR has 4 pins in series, wires are yellow, green, white and red, i belive this is the same model as yamaha jog has.
If you want, i can do some photos for you, if it helps.

So, i fixed the taillight by just wiring it to the head lights, yes i know that is the "redneck method", but it works just fine. Of course my problems won't end here, i was riding, i stopped, turned off the engine and it wouldn't start, i started it using a screwdriver on the starter relay, when i opened the scooter i saw a blown fuse, i shorted the wires without a fuse and the brake switches wouldn't work and the wires started getting hot. Everything exept the brake light is working properly. What should i do?

The cluster, cluster lighting, brake and turn signal lights are operated by regulated rectified voltage. The headlight is not treated so gently, so likely you have a tail light that glows brightly when you are rolling down the road, but dims at stoplights. You may not have any rear tail light function. I betta nickel your regulator rectifier is fried in some way. The stator has a pair of wires to the reg/rec that are feeding generated volts. You could check the RAW voltage(from the white & yellow[memory?[) to ground with the engine running. Do NOT let either touch ground or you may need another stator. I believe volts should be above 20 with the engine running, increasing with rpm. There are notes/specs on site in the technical area about the charging system... tom

The voltage on the stator is the first thing i checked, the yellow and white wire was about 25-30V and the RR is intact, because i replaced it. I dont even know what to do anymore, these chinese scooters surprise me everyday, the problem with the brake light was solved, it solved itself, I don't know how, I don't know why but it works and I don't want to break it. Thanks y'all for the help.
