New bike, 50cc, less than 200 miles on it. Icebear. It wouldn't idle until it warmed up, and the factory carb didn't have an accessible air/fuel mix screw, so I got a new carb (Amazon) and dropped it in today. Idles fine but some surging on acceleration. I checked the stock carb and the main jet is #88. New carb (now installed) is #78. 88 seems big to me for a 50cc with zero mods.
Any thoughts on a different jet size to address the minor surging? Would a #80 or #82 make a huge difference?

Perhaps swapping the original jet into the new carb would help. If the old carb only had problems at idle or low rpm, its jet might be correct for higher rpms. If you have hesitation first opening the throttle, it could be the accelerator pump not squirting until late. The link on the side can be adjusted if so to start moving the pump as the throttle starts to open. If it runs well at higner rpm, then the #78 is adequate. You might check the pilot jet as it covers the flow transition from idle to full speed. Raising the needle in the slide piston will enrich the mixture. tom

>>>Perhaps swapping the original jet into the new carb would help.<<< I'll give it a try, what's the worst that can happen? I upped it to 80 the other day and I think the surging was less, but it's hard to tell. I just assumed that a #88 main jet on this new 50cc must have been a mistake. Thanks for the reply.
