hi ... just picked up my first honda spree ... the blue aero 50 will be the topic of a separate thread. this is a 1986 spree. missing some parts : carb, air filter, fuel level sending unit and fuel cap. battery is dead, of course. it looks like everything else is there and in excellent shape; only 1100km on the bike. it came with key but no papers. the plan is to go through the process of getting papers (done this many times, no issue as long as it's not stolen), fix, and sell. so as for the fixing part ... i see aftermarket carbs available but i am wondering if there is a carb that is bigger/better than the stock carb that will make it a bit faster WITHOUT any other mods ? i could of course just get the stock carb but if i can make it go 5mph faster with little to no extra expense then why not ? thanks, joe.

thanks for the welcome ! yes, this one is a cutie; plastics and seat are in really nice shape. the pic doesnt quite do it justice. the seller advertised it for parts, almost as an afterthought to her garage clean-out sale. i was thinking of maybe selling off parts myself, but when i saw how clean it was, i knew i had to make it whole again.

Not many parts available unless you do a swap. Non variator chain. Getting 5mph faster is a whole lot of work and effort.
For speed and reliability only good choice is swap. Af16 dio and like, are almost bolt in, qmb139 are still bottom mounted so easier than the gy6 top mount.
Looked into getting a spree for awhile and when I found one I had to pass on it because of lack of replacement parts and nothing for speed wise.
Really nice looking bike though

you had me at "whole lot of work" ... that's not in the plan. i was thinking that since i have to buy a carb anyway i might as well go for a better one if there was such a thing and it was a straight bolt-in that would provide a bit more power. this is a fix and flip bike, i never intended to keep it. thanks very much for the feedback.

Yeah unfortunately you can throw the biggest carb and pipe and still be stuck at like 30mph. Af05 single gear chain driven fixed gear ratio. It is like trying to take off in 2nd or 3rd gear and relatively small power band. Only thing it will do is get you to 30ish quicker and just kinda fall flat on it face.
