Hello, I'm a new account owner here on 49ccscoot. However, I've been using the forum for tips and information.
Wanted to talk cvt setups with a few of you and compare builds.
I have a 2002 maddog 50cc with what looks to be a newish gy6 50 with 80cc big bore (was told), different head, exhaust, pod filter, jet tuning, red cdi, red coil, glixal vari, glixal clutch with red springs, red contra. The bike had a confusing setup before I had gotten it such as 17g rollers. Never have I seen 17g rollers and I believe they had melted or pressed lead into the rollers.
I installed 10g rollers, and a blue contra spring and it's much steadier acceleration.
Is anyone running 17g rollers?

With the blue contra spring and 17g rollers it seemed to have harder acceleration but it wasn't throughout the entire gearing range.

Generally speaking, heavier rollers will tend to cause the variator to squeeze the belt to higher position sooner than lighter weight rollers. In essence it should cause the shifting to higher gear ratio to occur sooner than light weight rollers would. Go from low gear to top gear as soon as possible... I do not know why anyone would do that though it might possibly(?) allow for a higher top speed, but only if the variator will not reach its extreme position without lighter weights. The test for that is to use a marker to make a stripe across the variator from center to outer diameter, run as you can, then inspect to see how high the belt ran(wiping the marker) by looking to see where the stripe is still there. tom
