The stock final/ secondary drive gears were 14/52 so I bought 16/42 gears and didn’t notice any change in speed. The bike is mostly stock. I did get a new performance carburetor and variator kit for it too with the same results. Not looking to race this but would like to get 40-45 mph out of it. Guys have any advice? Have a mechanical background, just never messed with scooters.

You are up against that wind resistance wall with 50cc. There is no replacement for displacement. The only thing you can do is increase displacement with a ~70cc BBK or big block kit. Then you can tune the scoot for a little more speed. Check out the various BBK setups in this forum section.
