Good Day Everyone, First tie posting here. First the back Story, My son has purchased a 2013 Zuma 50 to be used for getting to his afterschool job for the next few months untill he gets his license. He grew up riding dirt bikes so as you guessed, he started reading into how he can get a little more speed from this engine. The previous owner installed a Polini Performance Variator and from what I can tell the rest of the bike is stock. On take off, the bike needs to rev a bit before moving but will hit about 40 mph on flat and 45 going down hill. We started reading everywhere here and other sites about mods to increase power or speed.
He completed the throttle mod that many mentioned to allow greater range on the throttle. This worked with the exception that the machine bogs at wide open throttle. I am thinking it is running lean or the CDI is limiting the RPM.
Any thoughts on this specifically or anything else we can try??
Thanks in advance!

A 2013 should be a fuel injected 4 stroke, never knew the throttle was restricted on those. BBK's are offered, usually my answer for best bang for the buck.

With a computer you may be SOL. A BBK may overtax the computers 'adjustment' range for EFI.

Ok. That’s good to know and confirms what I have been finding. I just don’t think it’s worth dumping a bunch of money into if he’s only using it for a few months time. Thanks guys!

If you are getting an actual 40mph on flat ground... with an un-updated 49cc, be happy with that. IMO. I would really not feel comfortable going much over that on one of these short-wheelbase critters. A little jog to the handlebars at speed could lead to grated skin or worse. As they say, not worth the candle. Which I did not understand for the longest time... tom

Well I pretty much decided to leave the scooter "as-is" like was mentioned. Thanks for all the input
