Hello,
I am looking for assistance with my Super 9 LC ignition cycle.
Background:
CDI: four plug, trigger, battery +, ground and coil + Stator: works Trigger: 1.2VAC signal CDI power in: 12.8VDC Coil wires: continuous - 0 ohm
Coil: 0.1-0.2 ohm primary (in spec) Secondary: 5Kohm Boot:3Kohm
I bought two DC CDIs from ebay, one generic and one advertised specifically for the Super 9, neither provided spark.
I have a new coil and another CDI coming in but there’s gotta be some other way to figure out what’s wrong.
Can a coil be in spec with resistance and be no good? Hoping to not go OEM with a CDI replacement - not sure if its bad and oem is 100$+ and weeks to ship.
Any assistance is appreciated, but after typing this out it sounds like it has to be either the CDI or coil. What is weird is it seems like Kymco does their own wiring scheme for the CDI that doesn’t quite match what I see elsewhere. I imagine that CDIs are really not interchangeable.

i have a kymco CDI from a cobra. Same horizontal kymco engine but not LC. Scooter ran well before it detonated! lol
If you want to try the OEM CDI I have it would be less than 100 and quick turn around. i have no idea on the compatibility between the cobra and super9 other than that they look the same (i've had a super9 in the past too).
When i had a sketchy spark on my kymco zx50, i followed advice of some members on here to put it in a freezer for awhile and then try it. temps can impact the old breaking solder joints inside. A bit of a hail mary if you feel like trying something.
The DC rectifier can cause weird electrical issues if broken.

Believe it or not, I got a gy6 CDI from china to work by just moving the pins around to match! 15$ and runs like a champ and now I will never have a CDI sourcing issue again. It was just that Kymco liked to move around the pins across models probably so they could sell a bunch of different CDIs.
What burns me is I spent 50$ on a naraku DC CDI listed on racingplanetusa as compatible with my scooter and it doesn’t spark at all.
They refuse to give me the pinout, and won’t refund me as I should have “confirmed it fit” before they shipped it. It fit according to their description lol, but it does not spark.
I am afraid to mess around with the pins to find the right setup at risk of blowing the stator trigger signal. I’ll just get another chinese CDI on standby and keep it in the compartment to swap out as a just in case! Cant beat 15$ and confirmed fit!

I would have gone oem for a bit more but I figured the turnaround would have been bad. I guess they don’t stock much in the US, but it’s nice to go generic as selection dwindles further
