First off, greetings.
I’ve got a 2T Vino that I’ve been working on. I got with a burned up crank bearing, so basically never knew it previously running.
I put it all back together with a Polini crank and an Athena sport 70cc kit. I initially moved up to a 70 jet but went back to the factory 64 and it ran better. With the factory exhaust, that someone had fooled around with, it ran decent and was pleasantly quick from around 20mph up.
I bought a belt off Amazon, but ended up using the old OEM Yamaha belt that was on it, I measured the width but don’t remember. The Amazon belt seemed too long.
I have a new Yamaha belt on the way. Worth mentioning, I broke a few blades on the variation fan, so got a cheapie (and the pin spanner needed) off Amazon just to get it on the road. I’ve got a Malossi Multivar on the way too. I ended up Frankensteining the inferior looking new variator with my old one to utilize as many OE parts as I could. Looking back, I should’ve used all of the cheesy parts as a system.
The other day I put the Silent Pro exhaust on which quieted it down and got me up to about 44mph. Overall, the throttle felt better. Right off the line and still quick over 20mph, but really falls on its face between 10-20 mph. Where you need the throttle to pull through a corner!
I tweeked around with the mixture adjustment but think I ended up about where I started.
Is this the kind of issue a dialed in variator and good belt should address? Not looking for the fastest scooter, but a compromise between reliability and fun to ride.
Think that’s everything.
BTW, the removal of the pipe restrictor was a 45 minute comedy. I was patiently Dremeling the weld off. I really wanted to start yanking on it but held off and ground all the way across the weld. And that damned horn fell down in the pipe! I turned, shook, beat on and cussed until it finally rattled out. I can’t be the only one this has happened to.
