Seems this forum topic is pretty slow moving.
Do you guys not get together and ride together? No events? No meetups?
What's the deal?
My spiel:
I'm an officer and founder in a South Central PA scooter enthusiast group. We do long group rides every month from March - November (as weather permits, crap weather == less distance). We've also done some cook-outs, garage days, an annual camp-out, etc.
We also have several members that attend local(ish) rallies - furthest away probably being Richmond, VA.
We also have a few members that do LONG scoot tours ~ once a year. I'm talking ~2000 miles in a week (a few of us did the majority of the Scooter Overland Adventure Route back in early September pre-hurricane).
I do get that group riding isn't for everyone. I need some ride therapy time in my own head more often than not - time to not focus on riders behind or in front of me, just focus on the road and working my brain out. But, I love group rides. I love the comradery. I love the fact that, over the last week, I've had several working sessions on one of my scoots and have had different club mates to come out and help along the way. I love the fact that a member hosts garage days that brings more folks out - around doing maintenance on a scooter. I love that we have a community... a place to belong and be nerds together.
Does that mean I love urban rides that are 40-50 scoots deep? No. They kinda suck. But I do them anyway cuz I love the community.
Does that mean that I love rural rides that are 100-200 scoots deep? No. They really really suck. But I do them anyway cuz I love the community.
The idea here is the comradery. My group is connected to at least 4 or 5 other groups in the region. We attend each others' rallies. We ride together when the mileage works. If someone breaks down in a 100 mile radius, they can count on others to help lift them back up. If my tuning is off on my 2t - I can count on folks to come through on helping me with a jet or part or tool or expertise that I don't have. Community.
So.... after this.... where's the love here? Why so quiet in the Meetups and Events section? From where I'm standing, I'd think this part of the forum would be hopping. Maybe not so much as the word game (yesssss), but hopping all the same. But it seems quiet. Like nobody here likes to ride with other folks or build a meaningful scooter community.
What's up scooterists? What's the deal?
For those of you in the South Central PA region - message me, we'll ride together.
For those of you in the greater Mid-Atlantic region - message me, I can probably refer you to some people or a club.
Otherwise, I hope to see more engagement. Going to Amerivespa? Shout it from the rooftops! Going for a tour? Who's up for joining you? Have some buddies doing something cool? Maybe someone here is into it.
Just my 2 cents from trolling the forum a little the last few days. Seems like the makings of a community, but the meetups and events section makes me sad.
