I had to get a new carb because I messed up the threads when I tried drilling out the mix screw(i suggest you be sober when undertaking this project, lol!). Should have cut a slot. So I went with the polini cp 19 because I'll eventually put a BBK on. And decided to go with an exhaust while I was at it. I have experimented with main and pilot jet combinations and needle positions. Currently I'm at 34 pilot jet and 84 main jet with needle at cenetr slot. When I seem to get good throttle response my idle wants to climb. Also the rpms drop rapidly uphill. I can get 8500 rpms downhill and carry 7500 to 8000 on the flats. But it crawls uphill. It seems stronger at mid throttle than full throttle, hence the movement of the needle. I've read and listened to so many tuning posts and videos that I can't keep all the info straight! Does anyone have some fairly simple advice for me, please?!?!? Or not so simple, just straight forward. Thanks.

A carb and pipe simultaneously can lead to insanity. It would be better to get carb correct with known pipe first, then install new pipe, but it can be done the way you are doing it. Adding the pipe will require a CVT retune, heavier clutch springs to delay takeoff until pipe hits powerband and likely lighter rollers in the variator. You would also need to upjet just a bit when adding the pipe. The carb sounds like it may be close if you still have the stock airbox? Stick with the stock airbox, a uni style filter will only add to your tuning woes.

Yes Oldgeek, I'm a glutton for punishment! Lol! I know I'm close but the fine tuning is driving me crazy. If I could get the needle right I think I'd be spot on. And as far as the CVT, I took it apart at least a hundred times tuning it to the stock carb and pipe. Now I'll get to do it all again! But I do like the experimentation. I can replace the carb and CVT in no time at all now! Lol!

Meaning dont bother getting the carb perfect if the CVT is not right because once you get the CVT right the carb can be out again.
