Having an issue with my Tao Tao atm50-a1 where there is no longer a spark at the plug. I can use the electric starter and it just cranks, but no spark is thrown. Along with this spark issue, I’m not getting any brake light illumination when pressing either of the front or back brake handles. The running tail light is on but won’t respond and light up when brake levers are pulled. Another thing I’ve noticed was that the headlight high beam indicator is illuminated on the dash. When I went to turn it off and put it on the normal setting, the headlight turned off altogether. So it’s either high beam on or no headlight on at all. Can all of these issues be a simple wiring mistake I made when installing various parts upgrades recently? What do you suggest & where would you start? Hoping it’s just a simple fix. Thanks in advance for any help.

The headlight should not work in either high or low beam when the engine is not running. You may have a small bulb in the reflector that lights when the ignition is in ON. The brake light switches enable the starter relay, so if the engine will crank using the starter motor, the switch must be functional to some degree. The CDI is not operated by the battery on thes, AFAIK. If you disconnect the ignition switch under/inside the headlight, the ignition should spark when cranked manually or by the starter. You can substitute a known good CDI to test. tom

Ope I made a mistake when relaying info! I have a few of these I’m currently working on and the one that had the headlight with high beam on or no light at all is a separate unit, not the one describing the other issues in the post. That’s my bad, sorry for the confusion there! But I appreciate the input and will give a different cdi a check today. Will update with findings, cheers!

You could have a half-failed headlight bulb that worked for HI but not LOW. Try a different, known good bulb. Most have keyed pins that allow insertion into the socket only one way, but ... you never know if someone has substituted a different bulb, or forced a bulb to fit.. Wonders will never cease. tom
