Questions about moto stuff

I am pretty new to mechanic stuff and wanted to ask some questions.
I have a DR evo 70cc kit that i want to install, but i have seen that you need to sand the intake ports, so the rings dont get caught in them, and that you have to gap the piston rings by putting them in the cylinder, and i have been overwhelmed by all these suggestions, and am curious, do i need to do this? Or is this just extra for engine longevity? If someone could answer i'd be more than happy.
