I have a call in to my mechanic but check this out, YES IM A NEWBIE, I noticed last 3 days my 49cc peace sports scoot had been squeaking when i let it warm up... It sounded like the belt needed wd-40.. Well tonight I take off and all a sudden it jerks like it wanted to throw me off and it wont go.. the engine runs fine but when I give it gas it doesnt go anywhere, I suppose the belt broke.. how difficult will this be and how much is sumpin like that to have done? just curious what im looking at fellas, please help

getting the cover off to inspect the belt is pretty easy but changing the belt requires the variator to be removed and that takes a bit more. an air compressor and an impact gun or a long prybar and a block of wood and a long breaker bar....there are different ways but all require more tools than the average person has.
belt jobs are typically $45-$75 parts and labor with a standard belt. now is the time to have the variator weights and slides inspected and replaced if they are flat spotted and they usually run round $15-$25 for standard replacement weights and slides if done at the same time the belt is done.

and thats if you didnt damage the rear pully when the belt broke
on the 2 strokes when im on a service call and i cant get the varatior nut off with strap wrenches i will feed some old rope about the size of lawn mower pull start cord down the spark plug hole and then off it will come with a socket and nice sized rachet
i normaly quote 1 hour of labor for a belt and thats normaly pretty good if all the bolts come out of the cover
