No more spark! Working on a 'new' bike that was given to me by a shop owner....I work for part time.(2006 longbo LBQT-22 with 1.5 miles on it(..he had it in the back using it as a parts bike. Only needed a CVT...belt ...turn signals. and new carb. Installed all those today and it fired right up! idled nice...revved good. Shut it off..now won't start...no spark. Does not have side stand safety switch, Swapped coil...cdi and plug from a running bike...and still no spark. Thought about the stator...but when I kick start it or electric start it....the head light has a dim glow...so the stator must be putting out current. Checked all ground wires..all are good... any ideas?... no -----> :spark: at all...

Check your kill switch, seen a lot of pinched wires that ground the coil. The spark is separate from the light circuit,,,

190 mech...will check kill switch....and so my suspicion is right....the the spark comes from a diff wind on the stator?....so that wind may be bad..??

yep many of them have 3 seprate parts to the stator the charge coil lighting coils and igntion coils
i would look at the kill switch too check the wires i dont know the diagram for that scoot but for the stellas normaly the first part to trouble shoot no spark is to bypass the kill switch

Check your kill switch, seen a lot of pinched wires that ground the coil.,,, and check the brake switches. do both brake levers light up the brake light? if it is a new scoot, it could well just be a wire that hasnt been pushed fully into the connector on assembly and couldve come out.

you have to look at how its wires some you simply unplug the wires others you ahve to jumper the wires together

cranks over...but no spark...even if I jump the relay with a screw driver. First the new plug was dead.....tried it in another bike that runs.....no spark. Replaced that...still no spark. Cut the b/w wire from the cdi....fires right up...but can't shut it off unless I turn the key off.....then touch the cut wire together. So now wondering where the short is.....emergency shut off switch...or key switch....how would I tell which one?... :spark:

well it sounds like it's earthing the low tension somewhere between the primary coil(s) in the stator and the ignition coil. usually the kill switch works by grounding the low tension power to the ign coil. if you've identified a problem with the kill switch (won't turn off) then it looks like thats where the problem is. without seeing the wiring diagram im guessing, but i'd say the b&w wire goes from the cdi to the kill switch via the ignition switch then to the ignition coil, probably not in that order but they'll all be in series. i would test the wire (is there just one wire) going to the kill switch and check for continuity to ground. with the switch in the ON position there should be no circuit to ground. same with the ign switch. when it's OFF the black & white wire should be earthed out, as it is now it's not turning the bike off because you have cut the LT wire from the cdi to coil. in the off position, this is the wire that would normally be grounded to kill the spark. download the generic chinese scooter manual from carlsalter.com and have a look at the wiring diagram. the wires may be different colours but the circuit will be the same

vvtr...Kill switch won't turn off...because I cut the b/w cdi wire. The kill switch itself is a sealed contained unit....with solder connections on the back....so if the short is inside....I won't be able to find it?...Not tried turning the kill switch off.....then touching the cut wires together...may have something there?

Update.....just checked engine with kill switch on....and key on...while running. With kill switch on...key on and running....as soon as I touch the 2 cut cdi wires together...it shuts off... Been a nightmare working on this...but a brand new scoot for free...from a dealer I used to work for....I can't complain. Especially when his best mechanic could never get it to pop...fire or run....at least I have made progress...and even rode it today.... ;D

Thanks for all the help...gonna check all everybody mentioned today...when it finally warms up to a balmy 30 degrees (brrrr) Can't complain much...he has given me 3 new non running scoots so far...a Tank Urban Sporty...A Jonway Wasp and a Longboo LBQT-22. The Tank and Wasp run like champs now....just gotta fix the short on the Longbo... Total cost to get all 3 running has been 140 bux in parts...plus the time and labor. I sure hope he asks me to work for him part time again next year...40 bux per hour as his assistant Mech was nice..but only payable when bikes need fixed...so sometimes I was there 4-5 days in a row...and didn't make a dime... HOWEVER...the 'end of season benefits' are nice....free bikes... ...
