I was just wondering when you should change the gear oil. It has been 1500 miles since the last time it was changed. Should I change it out for some fresh oil or let it go until xxxx miles. By the way this is the oil I am using.

I'd say about 2,500 miles is when it should be changed. I use synthetic and I've neglected mine in the past for as much as around 5,000 miles and it came out like new. Still, it takes so little and it's very easy to do, so I prefer to change it more often than that for peace of mind. I usually just change them both out as a spring thing.

I recommend changing it out every 2000-2500 miles not because the gear oil goes bad but because it gets little micro metal pieces in it from normal wear. If it had a filter then it would probably last for the life of the engine especially if you use synthetic stuff.

i change mine out every 2000 miles but then again i also do a basic service every 2000 miles on my zuma and being you should check your trans oil at 2000 miles and the only way to check it is to drain it and measure it well i drain it out see how much is in there and just put a 1/2 cup of fresh oil in (the zuma calls for 110 cc 1/2 cup is 118 cc

Thanks guys....
Y'all are just so damn helpful. :thumb:
You ask... And you shall reciev.
PS: I looked on the bottle and I'm not sure if its synthetic, it don't say. It just says 80w transmission oil. Is that what I should be using? I picked it up at the local scoot shop (Beyond The Limits).

80W is the right stuff. Non-synthetic gear oil smells different and looks different than motor oil.

If it's red then it may be transmission fluid for a car but if it says 80W then it's probably synthetic gear oil. I never use synthetic so not sure what color it is. Looking at the Bel-Ray bottle it looks like it's made for geared bikes with manual shift transmissions so I think it's probably good stuff and will work fine in your gear box.
