I bought a well used Moskito RX 50cc scooter with a Minarelli 2T motor off a guy with over 11,000 miles on it that did not run for $100. Turns out he must have let it run out of oil so the cyclinder and piston were trashed. I went back stock (49cc), ported the exhaust a little and put on one of those stainless pipes you see on eBay with the curled around end, put Dr. Pulley sliders in the variator and cleaned the carb and THAT'S IT. It has 50 m.p.h. on the speedo and will pass that on flat ground. I live in North Carolina so anything below 50cc is legal without a tag so I'm legal there but something just feels wrong with cruising at 3/4 throttle in a 45 m.p.h. zone. Should this thing be this fast or what?

Most likely the speedo is a little off, but you probably aren't too far from 50 if it's a decent pipe and the port work matches up to it well, carb's in tune, etc... Before I had GPS or more accurate speedometers, I would just find those RADAR signs they put out and buzz by to see what I was really doing. When I got my first 49cc I was 275-285lbs and it would cruise a bit over 40MPH WOT and I could max out the speedo over 50MPH tucked down on a long straight, sometimes I needed the wind's help or a decline though. lol That was on the stock speedometer. I think when I had the 70cc kit later I went by a RADAR sign at 51MPH and the speedo said about 54-55. Some are better than others for accuracy stock. From experience beyond then, 50 seems fast for someone as fat as me on a stocker.

Chinese speedos aren't the most accurate things. It may be reading Kilometers per hour. Both my stock non-ported minarellis do about 40 on flat roads.

It's got kilometers and m.p.h. on it and based on the speed of the cars on the road with me it's doing every bit of it. That's funny 90GTVert, I have done the same thing with the speed limit signs out by the school on my other scoot, a '84 Suzuki FA50 that I got out of someone trash pile. Maybe I'm just use it which will only to about 40 m.p.h. on a good day and then it sounds like it about to blow up (non-variated). So anyway I'm gonna pick up a gps this weekend and then we'll know for sure I guess. The thing is I have just got started on this thing. So what do you think is the potential and I'm into the cheap mods. I got less than $400 in it as is. I'm not opposed to milling the head, porting or tweeking the trans etc. It already smokes my dad's Eton Beamer, same cc.

I think maybe leave the porting alone for now. Sounds like it's working. Maybe check your compression and and squish, but I doubt they're off too far if it's doing so well at 49cc. Make sure the carb is in tune as best you can. Then work on the CVT if it needs it. If it's taking off too slow from a stop, maybe try some stiffer clutch springs. Adjust roller weight if it's revving too high or too low, but again for a 49cc to do what you're saying it seems like you must have it dialed in pretty well. You might be able to play with some vari or torque driver mods, all shown in the tech library in the CVT section, to squeeze out a little more. That's gonna be the most effective stuff without spending much.

My stock (49cc) F-Act would do 50 with a full tuck. Sounds feasible to me. :burnout:
