So I am back here in FL for a couple of weeks on Sanibel Island where most everywhere the speed limit is 30MPH. Only a couple of places are 35MPH but that is it. This scoot runs at 28MPH flat out with me 6'3" 265 pounds on it. This is a chain drive no variator scooter. Slow from the start hits a little power band then flattens out. Some of you guys might recall my previous thread where I stripped two of these things down and went right through them using mostly whatever tools I brought with me in a suitcase. 49ccscoot.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=genchat&thread=2742&page=1This is actually my first time really getting in a good ride on a scooter and I have to say so far I really love it. Years ago I used to ride street bikes and after three near fatal accidents where people said they did not see me I gave it up. Last fall I bought 2 more crappy scooters that need work. Back in Maine this summer it's going to be the Peace scooter for a while but really interested in seeing how the Kymco YUP50 works out. Hopefully, these things will not only be cheap but fun and might even chip away at the gas bill! Attachments:

Good to hear from you again Noah, and glad you're enjoying your scoots. Luckily I've never had bad wrecks from it, but I think all of us have scares at least on our scoots or bikes from being invisible. You know the deal, keep the high beam on, wear bright stuff if possible, look for them cause they aren't looking for you, etc... I'm sure it's nice to trade that Maine weather for Florida weather right now.

There are only two types of riders those of us who have been down and those of us who are going down. My first wreak was on a honda cbr at 45mph and i broke my arm in three spots, four ribs, and my jaw with a full face helmet on the doctor said i should of been dead

Glad the doctor was wrong about where you should have been. But this kinda brings home the reality that helmets don't solve all the problems a motorcyclist will face and it doesn't take triple digit speeds to do major damage. Did you hit a stationary object, btw?

People keep tailgating me so maybe I need one that does 35 but then they would probably still tailgate.

Those chain drive Geely's are pretty slow. I rode one once and it did okay on flats but it had zero hill climbing ability and it topped out at about 25 -30 like yours. You might wanna step up to a true CVT driven scooter. I'm 220lbs and my bone stock 50cc Minarelli Zip clone will pull me up to about 40. That Kymco yup sounds interesting keep us posted on that.

People keep tailgating me so maybe I need one that does 35 but then they would probably still tailgate. Going faster may or may not help. There have been other threads about this in more depth, but basically some of us get tailgated seemingly no matter how fast we ride. Like it's a scooter so it must be slow. I have been tailgated doing over 60 before, 15 or 20 over the speed limit in that spot. If you're in a 25 zone and doing 28, then maybe I could see speeding up helping. But yeah, it won't stop some of them.

They will still tailgate. I'll bring my scoot to 80km/h (50mph) in a 50km/h (30mph) zone (I'm not technically speeding since it's in the city and everybody else is at that speed so going any slower is suicide) and people are still passing me...only to slow down for the next light when I will once again pass them to be at the front of the line. I love these things! LOL!

I am still getting the itch to go faster. The exhaust pipe tip is 12MM ID. I have cut one of the three mufflers open with a hack saw and found this exhaust tip is a pipe that extends through the chambers to the front of the muffler. I think I am going to ship this home where I can have my way with it using my chop saw and MIG welder. I also need to try and find jets for this thing as I would like to open up the air box too.
