I'm in the process of building a drag racing frame out of aluminum. I'm considering a Minarelli engine for it. Is 500 shipped too much for a new stock clone?

You can get a 90 from Scrappy for less. Biggest prob there is all the reports of damage from poor packing and stuff like that. PFS sells the 50 or 90s right around there without all the claims of shipping damage.
If you want a short case and don't care about new, ATV motors on eBay can be had pretty cheap if you spend enough time looking.
Long case motors are the problem for me anyway. I just have a hard time finding a deal on one. I wanted a 49cc long case for a future project and looked and looked before finally paying $160 from a member for one with low miles but missing the top end. I'd spend some time on eBay or maybe craigslist if possible if you wanna save some cash. New shouldn't matter too much if you're building a dragster, cause I assume most of it will be swapped out anyway.
I'm bad at finding deals though, so someone else will prob tell you that's way too much. lol

personaly if it were me building a new engine hm engine
if you are looking for long case i would get a brand new rear disc case
but just the bare cases are about 300 bucks

spmoto has the aerox cases as does scooterattack so you should be able to get them thru jeremy
its hard to get complete aerox engines as many euro ebay sellers wont ship to the us
but maybe one of the euro members might be able to help you out
