Hello:
My name is Chris, I live in Nyc and bought a 2010 Tao used because I became disabled on the job 3 years ago and am tired of riding the bus or subway and missing everything and walking distances are out of the question. Anyway, my scoot was running great then one night it just died. I went back the next day turned the idle up just so it would stay running and make it home. I let it sit now it starts great, sounds like it has tons of power but when I take off it starts off REAL slow and tops off at about 15MPH. Some said adjust the a/f screw but my carb doesn't have one. I took out the air filter, had some oil and looked like a ciggarette butt filter color. People told me it was the spark plug. I just can't understand how it was running great and now I pray it reaches 15 mph within a block at full throtle. Any advice would br GRRRRRREAT! Thanks!

How many miles on it?
First off you need to do a valve adjustment, they are always tight from the 'dealer'.
Secondly, pull the CVT cover off and check the belt, rollers and clutch. Replace as necessary.
Third, those carbs are always sealed. It has an air/fuel adjustment but its been blocked off by a brass plug. The bowl screws are sometimes sealed on 2010's sometimes not. Best thing to do is replace it.

wouldnt surprise me if the carb needle retaining clip has fallen off, blocking the emulsion tube, so regardless how you open the throttle it just wont rev.

Thanks Fast & vvtr for the advice. The scoot was bought second hand and it has 1100 miles on it. When it is on the center stand and I crank the throttle it sounds like a bear but when I get on it and TRY to take off it just sllloooowwwlllyyy reaches maybe 15 mph. I just can't understand why when it's on the center stand it really souinds great but on the road it has NO POWER. It sounds like it is getting the gas but?? I am going to change the plug and recheck the gas lines and what I believe is the filter ( white Drum ) on the gas line. Thanks again! Anymore suggestions would be great! Thanks again! Well.. I pulled the sparkplug which didn't look too bad considering it was the factory plug. It had a normal but well worn look to it. I replaced it with the reccomended NGK and the scoot fires right up and sounds good but now when I hit the gas even on the stand it bogs down. I am without a doubt getting the Haynes manual because these scoots are an animal all its own. I have been riding dirtbikes since I was 8 but the scoots are new to me but I understand the concept gas, spark and compresssion. Something is telling me it is the petcock and/or carb because you can tell it has something to do with the fuel. I heard of "Seafoam" and was considering trying it. I am going to tinker with it today because it is warm enough for me to stay outside for a few hours. I am also ordering the new carb and will give an update. I really hoped it was just the plug! Anyway... thanks again for the help and hopefully I will be coming back with good news.

a compression gauge is a must have too. all to often i have seen someone chasing their tail replacing parts when it was low compression all along. i learned this lesson yrs ago but sometimes i still fall for not doing the basics first.

Its a 10mm fitting on a 139qmb 50cc so whatever gauge you buy you will need that too if it doesnt come with one.

If it was me I would do a compression test first followed by a carb cleaning, fuel filter and fresh 93 octane gas. check operation of the petcock too actually do that first. many of these have fully sealed carbs that cannont be serviced in any way so in that case get a new carb.

Best carb on ebay to use is this one and i should know ive tried them all i have 2 boxes full of junk used and new carbs here.

i had one do about the same thing and it was the carb diaphragm it had a little hair line tear in it
