The 4t 50s are under powered and many push to or beyond its limits and wonder why it breaks . I would only get a 50 with 12 or 13 inch wheels as the smaller 10s are not stable at top speed . The TaoTaos are cheap for a reason . I would opt for a 2T since they are faster , less parts to tear up and service , never have to do an oil change or adjust the valves like all 4Ts will require . Here is a list of some 2T scooters 49ccscoot.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=genchat&action=print&thread=2765 I have a Jonway Magnum which has dual headlights , Handsome Boy body which parts are cheap and easy to find , fat 130/60/13s which ride so good and very stable and best of all it has dual piston rear disc brakes where almost all have a cabled drum which is inferior to hydraulic disc . Most have dual pistons in the calipers , side by side as mine does , but on the rear it has a piston on both sides so it has more clamping ability and stops so good I can almost go backwards in time lol .
Trust me if you want a 50 then a 2T will be less headache and more fun I love mine more than my 150s , and with a 72cc BBK and pipe you will laugh as you pass by cagers and 4T 50s . I am at 3,500 miles , I did have the tail ligt burn out which bulbs do this and replaced with an 1157 LED . I broke the speedo cable and enjoyed it when asked how fast it is and said " Well it only registers up to 50 MPH and I broke the cable " which is true but it happened around 20 MPH . Replaced the cable and have not had any trouble other I got gas at a shady station that had some water in it . Drained the tank and carb , refilled and it was up and running . The dual 35 watt bulbs light up enough at night for even my near legally blind eyes to see . Got a hair brighter with LED tailight since it uses less electricity than a bulb .
Windy days , cracks and uneven patches on the road surface made my TaoTao swerve unstable and even my Echarm with 16 inch wheels it does but my Magnum is not effected since it has a wider tire . I can even go in a curve with no hands on the grips . Not suggested anyone try this . My TaoTao and Echarm wobble when only one hand is on the grips . Mine came with streetable offroad looking set of tires and has a ride similar to minibikes from my good ole days long ago . There is a great selection of premium tires in the 130/60/13 size . I weigh 200 lbs and can keep up and pass cars on low speed roads and its pretty good with a passenger on too . It also has a huge lockable dash which is perfect to mount speakers should you want to . Has folding metal passenger pegs , access panel up front to get to the sparkplug as well as one in the seat bucket . I can get to the carb without removing anything just loosen the screws on the intake and turn it like when I had to drain out the bowl and when I changed the jets . It came with a 68MJ and replaced with a 75 a lil rich as I prefer to be but a 72 would be perfect . I now have a Uni and 90Mj . I tried a 70cc pipe and wow it had more top end but did not line up with the mounts so I will have to tweak it and grind off some around the part that goes around the fan . Will retest with new pipe and Uni vs airbox soon . I have a 72cc BBK but waiting to upgrade the CVT and put on a new belt before installing it .
I have had over 30 two wheelers in my life , mostly 2Ts and some cruiser 4T street bikes . I have only had 2 2T scooters both Honda , an Elite and a Spree . The Elite was stock and just barely faster than my many pedal mopeds I had . I bought out a dealers surplus of 16 for only 900 , most were part bikes and some ready to ride . The Spree was hot rodded by previous owner done at Honda dealership . The Spree was so fast and more powerful then the Elite which I sold it as after the Spree it sucked . I rode it like I stole it since I was 18 years old and had a MC tag on it since I have MC license and insurance was 46 dollars a year wow . I never had a single issue or failure and had many wonderful rides on it .
Last year I bought my first China scooter a TaoTao ATMa 50 and only had experience with the 2Ts . I hated it from the very start . It did not ride worth a darn , headlight was like using a candle instead of flashlight , bounced like crazy and its no where near Honda quality as I was used to . It weighs 249 lbs , My Echarm which is water cooled and a 150 weighs 286 lbs and my Magnum only 188 lbs much lighter and easier to control than the TaoTao .
I am not intended om hurting the feelings of TaoTao owners just wanting to give you an honest review and save you from doing as I did .
Its always better to get middle priced scooters to get a better one than whatever you find with lowest price which may be a lemon or what I consider a throw away scooter after my unhappyness with the TaoTao.
2Ts are not as common , getting scarce and cost more as mine retailed 1,400 but I got it for less since I already had bought 2 scooters and brought 5 of my friends to them to buy a scooter . The EPA is hating on 2ts which import restrictions as the 90cc engines are almost no longer available . Parts for 2Ts are cheap and easy to get so no worry on that
