I have sold my 2 50cc chain drive retro scoots. Glad to see them go. They ran really good for what they were and I had them registered so I could put down some milage to ensure they were going to be reliable. After working out a few kinks I was confident someone was going to get some use out of them. $800 for the pair with the disclosure these were cheap chinese scooters.

I had my eye on a 2009 125 Vino not far from where I stay when in FL. I got there last night with cash in hand and the guy could not find the title. I do not buy anything without a title. Pretty much loved the scooter though. Really good low end torque and acceleration.

It has a few issues though. He says it fell over inside of a moving truck but that is BS it was dumped. The panels have all been professionally repaired and painted black with a clear coat so it looked really good. It was missing the front fender and there were some bolts and screws missing so it in general needed a little TLC. The big problem was when driving the steering was obviously crooked and in general it felt weird. While he was looking for the title I had some time to really look it over. It took me a little while of looking things over before I discovered that the front wheel was not plumb while the back wheel was. It was obvious enough that I was able to point this out to him and he could see what I was talking about.

I got home and found a picture of the triple tree for a Vino. It does seem to be the week point in an impact. There could be other issues but I am betting I can replace that and be done. We were able to negotiate a decent price and agreed when he has the title I have the money.

I really hope this comes through! This would give me a pretty inexpensive source of transportation while down here that will get me off island.

It's definitely not uncommon for the steering stem to get bent. I bent one at probably 35MPH. A friend's gf crashed his scoot in his yard and bent it at under 10MPH. If you haven't already, you might wanna price out a steering stem. For our Chinese scoots they weren't too bad in price, but if you can't get one used a Yamaha part might be expensive.

Yeah, I realized that unlike most motorcycles I am used to the forks only attach at the bottom instead of top and bottom. I am really hoping that does it cause it would really be a suckfest to have the frame tweaked. Found one on Ebay for $35 delivered to my door. I am pretty sure it would just be a few hours to replace it.

Pretty neat bike though it has 10" wheels so I thought it was going to be too small for me. My knees were quite aways below the handle bars and it hauled my 6'3" 265 pound frame pretty easily.

I have to say that I also enjoy the minimulist nature of the 50CC scooters on this island as being just enough.

Yeah, not much to it. The worst parts are removing/installing panels and all that to get to it and if it uses individual ball bearings it can be a little pain sometimes to get them in and back together without them moving out of place. Neither is really a big deal though.

All Yamaha's use individual balls, you will lose some on disassembly, be sure to have spares handy.

Wheel bearing grease is the key. You pack the bearing races with wheel bearing grease, stick the balls in, then carefully assemble.

I had passed on one that had been laid down hard and although all the panels had been repainted it needed a steering stem and looked like it was thrown back together. I offered him $600 for that one. He still got $850 for it and the new owner knew about the stem.

Today I am buying an 08 125 Vino. I am looking to upgrade away from the cheaper Chinese scooters and stepping up from 50cc as well. I am a pretty knowledgeable guy but have no experience with these particular scoots. Any Vino owners out there? Common problems? Any performance mods that can be done?

I think I did OK I paid $900 the guy had it serviced at the dealer regularly and provided all the receipts. The only issue was that his wife hit the front brake hard and looks like it had a soft landing with scrapes on the front fender and left rear cover. They had it looked over by the dealer, fixed a few things and then drove it for another several hundred miles. Although it will probably be several months before I can get down there to ride it I am pretty excited.

That looks nice if you could fix the scratches it will look mint
