I wave at everyone, even bicycles and people who have dirt bikes/ATVs in the bed of their pickup (which gets a grin and a nod back). I ALWAYS wave at scoots. I distinctly remember a time shortly after getting my first little yellow scooter and having a "tough guy" on an obnoxious custom chopper give me what was honestly a very cool, very genuine, and very unmistakable "biker wave." I grinned about that the whole way home. You couldn't have had two more polar opposites of the world of motorcycling than he and I, and that made the connection and sense of camaraderie that much stronger. More than 40k miles under my belt later, and I still remember that as a defining moment. I can't really explain why, either. So, that's why I always wave, unless I genuinely didn't see you (which sometimes happens in rush hour). This is also why I'm grateful that my first introduction into the two-wheeled world was on a 50cc Chinese scoot. It started me off on the right foot, with the right perspective. I still haven't bought that "big crotch rocket" like everyone else inevitably does (not that I wouldn't mind a bigger engine for easier distance trips). I came thisclose to riding that thing to Illinois, too. Holy crap, that would have been hilarious. I have a friend who moved from Houston to Kansas City on his Ruckus. No lie. I took something like 3 weeks and $20 in gas. And he's a guy who used to own big sportbikes and such. He just wanted to do it, so he did. He has crazy stories about it, too.

I usually wave first. I find more Harleys don't wave back here. Well, Harleys and scoots. Seems like half the scoots pay me no mind. My friends with bikes say scoots don't wave to them so they don't wave to scoots. I'd believe that since they don't wave at me. One says a lot of 'em just don't think we're real riders on scoots. Thing is, I put more miles on my scoots than they put on their bikes most years, and I have a lot of limitations they don't have. When I first got into scoots I rode to a friend's house 10 miles away. Him, another friend, and his father all ride big bikes. They said "you rode that all the way here?!?!?" Like it was a big deal to go 10 miles. Since then I've gone out cruising with sportbikes numerous times, Mustangs, whatever. I enjoyed riding with the sportbikes in town, laughing cause they were so hot form the heat those suckers put off sitting at red lights. Well, till they figured out how to kinda aim the heat from the fans at me. Son of a...

To me it don't matter if they don't wave back, I know i gave it, we are all on two wheels and facing the same risk. I have found that those that do wave back, are very much the kind of people i get a long with well. Maybe it's the same disposition LOL. I don't know. I went to a Fulton days Fest, the local Abate had a tent up so I walked over and talked with them... I had spent 10 years as an Abate member, they actually wanted me to join again even though I now ride a scooter...
I told it the way it is, "Why would I want to join a bunch of people that drive Harley's and think it's a bad thing to give a simple wave to somebody else on a scooter". I said "not all of us want a Harley"..
I was invited to some of their meetings I went on a couple of rides with them, they put out a biking etiquette article in their monthly news letter.. Since then I have gotten a lot more waves than ever.. They still want me to join again LOL

Nothing crazy about that, iv'e all over Indiana even to the Ohio border. Illinois and Ohio both require tags, and my scoot didn't have them at the time. If not for that I would have driven there too.. :riding:

when encountering haters i ask them 3 simple questions. 1- are you cooking my food? 2- are you washing my clothes? and 3-(this one has been edited for all audiences) are you sharing my bed? if they answer no to all 3 you have the right to tell them where to go!

Biking in this country is not as friendly as it was 20 years ago. years ago people had bikes as a form of transport, so you were in a small group of people and it was like a little club. Now its a toy, just to be used when the weather is good, for most owners. I have been riding scooters for about 7 years and only had a couple of nods off people, even though i dont have "L" plates. Sports bike riders wont wave to Harley's and harleys wont wave to sports bikes. Nobody waves to scooters or people on learner bikes. It is funny i could go out on my sports bike when i had it and get nods all the time, but then take the scooter out and its as if your invisible lol

In '05 when I got the Baron, I got the nod, or upside down peace sign "2 wheels down" from all the Harleys, over the years it has gone down to closer to 1 out of 5. Forget the sport bike guys. Maybe they just gave up because they didn't get a reply? The 2 wheels down sign is common around here. If it's windy I give the nod, cuz I'm holding on.

I give the "two wheels down" sign...... If its a snob that plainly sees me but ignores me?. Well then, then i drop it to a "one wheel down salute" (middle wheel LOL)

When I was on my Ninja 250, I used to see cruiser guys see me and then intentionally turn their head away and pretend to be fascinated with the side of the road as we passed, especially if they saw me start to give the biker wave. I just took it as, "Sorry. I only wave to fellow d*****bags."

regarding the harley thing..... they dont even nod/wave to their own if they have one letter less on their xlftcxzplxs p.o.s
one of my haunts in particular, the harley bunch always park in the same place & get really arsy if anyone parks near them or pinches their spot lol. but they segregate themselves into model specific groups depending who has the biggest beard / dirtiest doo rag.

One time, there was this hail storm coming. I had my little scooter and we had a 2 car garage that we were only using one side of (I parked on the other side). I noticed the elderly neighbors across the street had their son over and he had his nice Harley. They didn't have a garage. I went across the street and offered to let him park his bike in our garage. He scoffed at first, but then came over and changed his mind. Gosh, this picture just still cracks me up:

Always some dude on a Harley that stares at me and chooses to ignore me. Typically the ones that are really trying to look like badass bikers. If they were as badass as they wanna look, they would never let anyone get away with that. I feel bad about it sometimes though. It's really a reaction more than anything, and it's not what I normally do when someone doesn't acknowledge me. Prob funny to both of us in the long run. I go home and say I flipped off some tough guy on a Harley and laugh. He goes home and says some guy was so mad that he's stuck on a scooter he gave me the finger and then laughs.

Oh, something kinda funny. T2 being stripped down and modded with diff lights and pegs sorta resembles a cruiser coming at you. I see some people wave and then I swear they look like they wanna take it back so bad. Fooled you!
