i just picked up a 2010 taotao 49cc scooter well the case says 50 but the plate says 49cc lol the scooter runs decent has trouble with idleing so i adjusted it but the main problem i'm having is that none of the lights, blinkers,or horn works also the fuel gauge and spedometer dont work i traced all of these wiring and eveything seems to be hooked up except one green wire which i have no idea where it goes to. the battery concerns me to i'm not sure what type of battery it needs for this scooter but this battery is a small grey box looks just like the ones you would use in a power wheels car lol. i also checked a fuse i only found one fuse and it wasn't blown.
sorry for all of these questions but i'm lost i never owned one but i do like the scooter and its fun to drive the brakes work fine to it does sometimes hestates while driving but not bad like it wants to go faster then slows down a bit i dont know its confussing lol. hopefully someone has an answer for me thank guys, shon :scoot2:

Hello Robert, Where is the green wire your talking about located ? It sounds like a ground to me not making contact.. On many the ground wire runs from the ( - ) negative post on battery to the top of the valve cover, I would take the grounding wire off the valve cover, clean them and put them back on.. Also many have a wire that leads from the valve cover to the frame of the bike to provide extra grounding.. I'm thinking it's a grounding problem..
You didn't mention if it starts with the kick starter or the electric starter..

ok yes it may be a grounding problem as well as this funky battery they put in it lol the green wire is near the motor just hanging there i will ground it and see what happens, also the kick starter will also start the scooter no problem but i will get a new battery soon or find a decent used one somewhere should i use a 7? i appreciate your help, i am enjoying my new scooter even though i have it completely torn down lol also is there anywhere i can buy new plastics for that year? taotao 2010? i was on there web site but had no luck thanks. :scoot2:

Scrappy would be my first thought about getting new plastics, I don't know what model of Tao Tao you have, Hansome Boy, sunny, Retro, but scrappy has most of the plastics for them. www.scrappydogscooters.com/look under chassie/bodywork link
