Hi all. I usually sit back in most forums I'm involved with and read everyone elses adventures , but I did have a moment of triumph with my scoot so I thought I would share.
I got a 2007 keeway f-act 50 for 400$. Reason being is the motor was blown. Took it apart to find a random screw sitting in the reed block and it looks like another random screw too the scenic route through the engine.
Thought about a full rebuild but for a few dollars more I can get a full engine assy and 100 cc's to boot
So that's the route I took. Ordered the engine and mine even came with an airbox ( states not included on website ) but one tab was broken and the airfilter was pretty much sawdust held together with oil in the shape of a airfilter. ( it was a proper air filter just gone bad )
So I bolted it in and about 2 hours later had it running.
Thinking( hoping really) it would be good to go as it I took it for a little boot down the block. Well barely making it out of the drive way was a indication on how it would run and I wasn't thrilled. But I expected some tuning.
The next day ( was put together late at night in the rain) I figured it was running rich. So I removed the stock snorkel and drilled 20 1/8" holes in the bottom of the air box. Jetting was close enough for it to run ok and the plug was not bad. Still a little rich but ok enough to at lest get out of the drive way.
Down the road yo a top speed of......30km/h booooo
Looked online and followed the advice of the other tread on this motor. My fuel tank is above the motor and has a vacuum operated petcock. To play it safe I drilled it out to ensure fuel flow. End result same speed and fuel on me when I take the carb off.
Did a compression test .....75psi ! Surprised it actually ran.
Being a Honda mech from years past and a marine engineer I knew I could make this work better. Then I thought about using the head off the 50 and seeing if that would help.
Day and night difference. Stock head 30 kph. 50 head 80+kph ( speedo only goes to 80 and it was past that in the 1/4 mile I drove it ( or so I didn't measure the distance)
Stock comp =75psi. 50 head =150 psi
Still need to fiddle with the jetting a bit but so far it's a huge improvement.
Btw the 50 head is the squish style and the stock one isn't.
Thought I would share incase someone else has this issue.
Best part is I didn't need to by anything for it. I like free power
