Heat causes them to expand push back up to far on the crank and then when they cool its stuck. Try a torch to heat it up and it should slide off. Also since it is obviously getting hot then you should up the jetting a bit and vent the case.

If it's just the ramp plate, as long as it doesn't look damaged, maybe just go over it with some sandpaper in the center till it slides over freely.

haha funny this just happened to mine, bought that 70 dollar variator from scrappys and about 3 months riding it was really loud, so i took my case off and the same problem for me, the backplate was stuck, although when i finally got it off, it was actually cracked in 3 parts of it, i threw my old variator back on and just like you, i had to use sandpaper to get it back on, as long as you get a pretty high numbered sandpaper it shouldnt damage it at all, i believe i used somethin like 340 or whatever i dont remember i just know it was in the hundreds and it looked like really fine sand, you could also use steel wool if you have that, sandpaper worked for me, although took forever to get it to go back on, try not to take too much off though, i believe there has to be somewhat a little friction between the two, but not much
