CVT Case Cover Bearing Replacement
Begin by removing the CVT cover bolts and pulling the cover off.
Now you can access the CVT cover bearing. If you aren't sure that it needs to be replaced, you can check it very easily. Try rotating the center section of the bearing. Make sure it moves freely and without noise. Use a bolt or other object that fits pretty snug to check for play in the bearing. Look for visual signs of wear. You can see in the image below that my bearing had lost it's seal.
Now you'll need a blind hole bearing puller. I picked mine up from Harbor Freight for just under $40.
There was a problem with Harbor Freight's blind hole bearing puller for this particular job. The smallest attachment was still too large to fit through my bearing. I remedied this by using a dremel to enlarge the hole in the old CVT case bearing until the puller would fit.
Insert the puller attachment and tighten it up so the puller will expand to hold the bearing.
Now attach the slide hammer portion of the bearing puller.
Use the slide hammer to free the bearing from the case. It usually only takes a few pulls to completely free the bearing.
Now unscrew the bearing puller to release the old bearing.
Now is a good time to clean out your cvt cover. Make sure you get all of the dirt and debris out of the bearing's race before installing a new bearing.
Place your new CVT case cover bearinginto the race flat and straight.
Use a bearing/seal driver or a socket and a mallet to drive in the new bearing. If you use a socket, make sure it matches up to the outer edge of the bearing without being larger than the bearing's diameter. Be careful to keep the bearing going in straight.
There's your new CVT case cover bearing. Now just reinstall the CVT cover.
