would it be possible to add a gearbox to a gy6, and would this make it faster? (i imagine so but just checking) would it be an easy job?
thanks
(im still learning the basics of motors by the way) :scoot2: :wheelie: :skull:

I suppose you could, something motorcycle, pre-unit Burman I *guess*, anything more would be over-kill. You would lose all the drive bits and a lot of the existing case. I don't think you would accomplish much, if anything, at the end. Probably the easiest/best would be to use just a motorcycle horizontal Honda clone.

anything is possible if you have tools, knowledge on how to use them correctly, ability and thousands if not 10s of thousands of dollars to make your dreams come true.

It would be possible I'm sure with enough time, money, and effort invested. I think it would be a lousy investment though. You'd be way better off to find another engine that you could swap in I'd think or to trade in your scoot for something else. Not sure you'd get any faster with a manual gearbox. If you spend the time tuning the CVT it should be able to keep you at peak power most of the time. I'd look into an over range kit before I tried to go manual gearbox. With my over range CVT kit (mine's on a 2T, but pretty sure they are out there for the GY6) I can tune so it almost immediately jumps to peak power and stays there until I let off (example : www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJvGrWV37KY ). The manual gearbox would be in and out of the peak power more. Only way I'd think it could make a big improvement would be if the manual gearbox let more power reach the ground than the CVT. Not sure if it would or not. You did say faster though, not quicker. It would be a lot easier to swap sprockets around instead of playing with drive face angles and final drive gears to get the best top speed gearing. But then by the time you plan and build a manual GY6 you could have had all that CVT and gearing stuff sorted long in the past.

honestly, im so aggrevated with my scoot, that i just sit around and ponder new ideas to do to it, as of now, ive changed the carb, sparkplug, all the hoses, ive adjusted the valves blah blah blah, still trying to crank, just won't start until i put gas on the sparkplug and put it back in, then it starts just fine, i've checked the intake over and over for hairline cracks, everything...im so lost with this scoot, im almost tempted to take a sledge hammer to it
