Silver should be at the top.

Don't line up the gaps. Put the compression rings 180 degrees apart. Put the oil rings 180 apart from each other, and 90 from the compression rings. So if the top is 10 o'clock, the 2nd is 4 o'clock, the top oil ring is 2, and the bottom oil ring is 8. Really doesn't matter where exactly though, just don't line them up.

an what do you guys think of scrappydogs bbk's i had the 72cc bbk in and it was real good.. but when i put the 50mm (82cc) bbk in thats when i had power problems. the install fine but i lost power as i posted b4..

If there are no marks it should be OK either side up.

On some after market pistons the top ring groove takes a little narrower ring than the 2nd groove does.

you guys think the hoca 50mm piston an ring assembly will fit in a scrappydog 50mm bore sleeve?

I was wondering that myself bescauce the Hoca looks to be a dome piston and not a dished like SD.

you guys think the hoca 50mm piston an ring assembly will fit in a scrappydog 50mm bore sleeve? IF you use 2 hoca base gaskets..yes. The Taiwanese made Hoca piston is taller than a scrappy/china piston.

thanks for the info.. you think it will make more power?

It will raise compression a lot. Will have a hard time to get it started. The starter will not turn it over due to higher compression.

thanks for the info.. you think it will make more power? Maybe a little, if its built right.

It will raise compression a lot. Will have a hard time to get it started. The starter will not turn it over due to higher compression. The 2 thick hoca base gaskets i suggested will do 2 things: 1) lower the compression down to about 190psi where (most) stock starters can handle it. 2) give clearance so there is no piston/valve contact which will happen with 2 or even 3 standard base gaskets on this combination. As of this post i have 4962 miles (not km) on this exact combination. 50mm China bore, hoca piston (taller than china piston) with 2 hoca base gaskets and a 47mm head. lol dont ask how i ended up with that crazy combination thats a whole thread in itself lol it works damn good though ..luckily lol

the squish down on those base gaskets when you torque the head down will let some tension off the timing chain. (i didnt know this would work..luck was with me not math)..so dont let that worry you too much....yeah it seems tight when its going together and i might have aborted the mission if i had an alternative when i built the motor, but i didnt so i cranked things on down.....after running her in and then taking the valve cover off to do a valve adj i saw the chain was taunght.. but not tight like it was when assembling. This combo is juuust on the edge of working...like within .001 maximum...closer even i think. (I didnt use any silly puddy to check i just went by feel) Any tighter and things would be gone by now. With things that close though...this same combo by the numbers might not work for anyone else...because all these parts...if the same part came from the same country as all mine have... it all still might not work because with these scoot parts not everything is created equal. in other words, my combo is just on the edge of whats tolerable but someone elses matching numbers parts might not...things are damn tight on this combo but i guess thats why its makes such great power. Stock valves, intake and exhaust runners with stock 18mm carb and still does about 52mph or so. I wish i could take credit on knowing the right combo to put together using affordable parts like i used and make the kind of power i have but to be honest it was just dumb luck lol...but sometimes dumb luck is how tuners become tuners (experience).
It could have just as easily lasted 100 miles. As tight as things were i never dreamed it would have turned out so well. Making sure the oil is clean and the right level plus the use of a Prima magnetic drain plug kit from Enviromoto.com i feel is one of the biggest reasons it lasted this long...sure as hell didnt hurt. I also changed to Amsoil 10w40 synthetic after the rings ran in with dino oil for @2k miles.
