so I knew i had an issue with my front brake and yesterday I pulled my speedometer cable and brake line out. And when I check the line for damage this is what i saw....come to find out which ever 6yr old child labor worker in china/korea where ever it was made had not done a very good job of making sure the brake line was not sitting on top of my front tire...litterally it was sitting above the tire no harness or anything. so the tire rubbed a hole in it...lol

That's why a PDI is a decent idea...... Check everything those kids missed to make there daily quota. What do ya expect for 25cents an hour Glad you caught it now rather than in an emergency stop situation...... Replace, Refill, Bleed/ repeat and avoid yourself from bleeding from a non stop situation IMO....

That whole 70% stopping power is upfront thing is a myth, you'll be alright with just the rear.

yea i've been using just the rear for a few weeks now. I just bought a new speedometer cable and a break line on ebay for 22.00 so i should have it fixed in a week or so.

Personally I would rather have the option of using that front disk. It Does in fact make it so ya can stop quick if needed instead of coasting...... If a cage pulls in front of ya, That extra 70% could mean the difference in stopping a foot away or plowing into at half speed..... The decision is yours of course. I Never heard Disk stopping power was a myth before but I guess ya learn something new everyday :crash: (just jokin around) ABS is another story....

The majority of braking power coming from the front isn't even all about disc vs drum, and it is true. It may not be 70% on all scoots, but a substantial amount of braking power comes from the front. When you hit the brakes hard, the weight which provides increased traction (remember we have tiny contact patches), transfers to the front and away from the rear. While you could get by with a rear drum only in some cases, I strongly advise against it. First, I've been in plenty of situations where I was glad to have all the braking power I could get, and wishing for more at those moments. Second, you have no backup. If something happens to the rear brake, then what?

That whole 70% stopping power is upfront thing is a myth, you'll be alright with just the rear. I feel this statement has some credence when speaking of scooters. The weight does transfer to the front wheel on braking but a scooter's (and rider's) weight is more concentrated on the back wheel due to the integral motor/transmission and the rider generally sitting farther back on a scooter than on most motorcycles. And as far as contact patches are concerned I would say most scooters have proportionally more contact area/weight on their front tires than most motorcycles. Braking power is another matter altogether since most scooters aren't designed for 100+ mph speeds.

telling someone with a vehicle they have too many brakes is like telling a skydiver they have too many parachutes.

Ranging from 250-300lbs I put a lot of weight on those tires and the scoots and bikes I've rode with rear disc can easily lock the rear tire. I was quite surprised on a friend's scoot at just how little it took to lock it up. I do agree it's different with scooters, but if more had rear disc it wouldn't be so different IMO.
