So, Im heading out of work yesterday. I use Louisvilles Park system and convoluted alley/one-way street stuff to stay almost completely out of traffic. But, on the only short, hi-speed(35mph) section I need to ride, I got radared at what he says was 40. In his defense, the speedo does show 40 on that section, but I assumed it was a chinese 40 meaning really, 35. Nope. On my Eton, 40 really means 40. :dunno:
We have friendly argument . . . I refrain from asking him why he didnt pull any of the cars that he saw passing me, and instead tell him Im actually shocked that it did 40, as its a restricted 49. He said it did do 40, regardless, the speed limit on the turn is 25, so even if it wasnt 40, I was still speeding. Heres where it gets weird. Louisville/Kentucky dont have a real scooter law. They have bicycle-moped laws and MC laws. The scooters are a grey area. He tells me my bike is a 50, so it needs a tag. "No", I say, it is a 49cc. He points to the ID plaque on the frame that says "BEAMER 50". A 50 is a 50, he says. We go back and forth, he gets on the internet and looks up the Eton. He says I need to get flag and something that shows its 49cc. "OK, cool--yes Sir !" I head on my merry way :scoot:
There are a zillion scooters, lots of them have flags, none have tags . . . But, I cant find anything even on KY's DMV site that gives facts. Oh well . . . I guess the lesson here is that there is at least one Eton speedo that really works ! :thumb:

hmm...here in Ohio (Toledo) we have to register all scooters. If they can be drove on the street than it has to be tagged. But they did have to register it as a motorcycle. I thought that was weird cuz the title I had from when I bought it was from illinois and it said scooter but now my ohio title says motorcycle.
The DMV also told me that I am suppose to get a motorcycle endorsement, I told her no I don't because its not a motorcycle its a scooter with a top end of 31mph (on paper..lol) She said well on the title it says motorcycle..I said oh well I have papers at home that say i'm the greatest person on earth but it doesnt mean its true...she just kinda laughed and said good luck..lol
come to find out she was right and i am suposed to have a motorcycle endorsement on my liscence...
but yea most dmv's act like scooters are a new weird hybrid spieces of transformers and motorcycles...lol

While the majority of stock speedometers seem to be optimistic, not all are. My friend's 150 speedo reads slower than it's really going. Only about 2MPH, but still slow.

I think because scooters are only a small persentage of Vehicles on the road a lot of people do not have a real understanding of where they fit in.

I agree with this, whats a shame is scooters are a major form of transportation in other country's, you would think we could learn something from this.. well you also have to take into consideration that the American government is full of autistic dog shit...they don't a clue about anything...lol Our American governments ( Federal and States ) are very very arrogant and have many special interest that often squash many great idea's ..
