Just a reminder for anyone sorting out issues with pinging, rattling, knocking issues in their engines. My scooter came back to me from the guy I sold it to running properly for the most part so I didn't have a need to check the plug, but I have been suffering from pre-detonation pinging/rattling that would typically be associated with low octane gas. The problem is that I was running 93 and knew it was good. Turns out it was my plug. If you run a 2 stroke there is no protruding plug that will stick out and not overheat at the tip, causing pre-detonation. The plugs that do not protrude stay at the proper length not to overheat and pre-detonate. My engine went from very bad issues with getting hot and rattling when loading it (such as wot or up hills) to quiet and smooth by simply putting the proper plug in it. ONLY use plugs that do not protrude and stick out. They overheat in 2 stroke engines and cause pre-detonation. If you are chasing gremlins, try the correct plug. I wish I had known this is what the guy stuck in it last week when I noticed the issue.

Good tip! Nice job figuring that out. I would most likely have assumed the plug that was in there must be correct.

You subtract the P in the spark plug. The P means protruding.

I use extended plugs in my keeway Hurricane with no problems.

Then convert to the correct plug and you'll do even better since it will lower your temps.

+1 to one1: I just looked it up in my Matrix owners manual says it takes a B8HSA. im using B9HSA's with no problems and i live in wisconsin (so if its working here its going to work just about anywhere else...).
