I installed a 85 CC big bore kit and it ended up leaking on me. I knew it was a gasket, so now I have it taken apart again. I saw a post on here with big bore installation and it didn't have a gasket installed. I bought new gaskets, and its a little thinner than the original. My question is do I need a gasket or is it OK to not have one? I know its a stupid question, because you need one to help seal the cylinder, but Idk if its Ok to use a thinner one or not at all. Like I said, I saw a post here and they didn't have one installed. So it made me question it. I'm new to this. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Which gasket?
For the most part, the guys around here, are using "3 bond" on everything but the head gasket. Using a head gasket is almost a necessity (you can coat it with Permatex copper spray). Silicone has no business being used in a motorcycle/scooter engine. If you are blowing gaskets out you are either over filling your oil, or you have too much crankcase pressure. Besides checking the ring gaps on assembly, the use of an aftermarket crankcase breather is really the thing to do.

Its a 50mm kit. When I installed it it was leaking oil. The paper gasket wasn't sealed right. I bought a sheet of gasket paper but its a little thinner than the original. Is it OK to put the gasket on and some sealant? Just seems like a silly question to ask. Ill see if I can post some pictures.

And there is a post on here showing how to install a big bore kit and I noticed they didn't install the paper gasket. So that's why I wasn't sure if it was needed.

Paper gasket should be the base, so I assume that's what you mean super8. What post is that? Got a link? My BBK how to ( HERE) shows and mentions the installation of the base gasket and head gasket...

Oh OK. I overlooked that on there. But that was the post I was talking about. Just didn't see the base gasket on there. But I use my phone and not a computer on here, so it doesn't take much to overlook some stuff. I will put it back together and hopefully I got it right this time. Shouldn't take too long. Thanks for the help.
