Be SURE to check the OIL RING GAPS to not be over .012 or it WILL smoke like a train!!! At least 1 in 10 ebay kits you see have the oil ring gaps too wide. Personally I never run the oil rings if they are over .015 Had one here this week and the oil ring gaps were .020 and .022 and it was smoking James Bond style, not the first time ive seen this by far
Also, be SURE to check piston to head/valve clearance. at least 1 in 10 ebay kits require the cylinder to have an additional base gasket installed for clearance.

help installing a bbk right now have everything pretty much assembled. i have the t lined up on the fan, piston is at the top, and cam holes are lined up now the problem is that camshaft is not even close to the rocker arm the gap is way to big. the only way to get anywhere to a .004 gap while the camshaft is aligned and the piston wont be at the top and the t wont be aligned either. should i use my stock head this kit has a 64mm valve length. This is the kit i bought. what should i do? www.ebay.com/itm/150986329487?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

the problem was i need to change out the stock rocker arms for the ones that came with the kit. I now need to know to remove the rocker arms from the assembly. When i turn the screw on the side of the assembly all it does is spin. Do you know how to remove these screws. Thank you

Careful when doing your 139qmb top ends my friends using cheapo china parts like i do. I had what i thought was oil rings with too wide of a gap, turns out the cylinder is .005mm over. How someone who has what are thought to be ring gaps too wide with no known correct bore to confirm this im not sure. If the piston slides too easily into the bore when you are putting it on, stop and have the bore size 100% confirmed at a machine shop.

I'm considering buying a used Tao Tao 50cc that has already had the carb replaced. Once the carb is replaced are the scooters reliable? I'd like to be able to go at least 40mph consistently and not have to worry about it randomly breaking down on me. I see a lot of advice about tuning these scooters and rejetting them to get them to run better and faster. How exactly do you go about doing this? My mechanic skills are fairly limited but I'd like to learn how to tune it if I were to go through with buying it. Thanks!

well since the carb is upgraded id check how it runs what main jet is in it and then check your valves. there notorius for bad carbs and really tight valve clearances. after that look to see if its a 2011 if so you might be lucky and get a 6b which is stamped on the rear gear housing.(which means its a 63cc). they're alright in the reliability class but id steer clear unless your getting good deal

How many miles (not km) were put on these piston rings with the stock sealed lean carb? If it has more than 1000 MILES on those rings with the stock sealed carb I would walk away from it. Time and time again I have seen these taotao scooters with low compression after 1k-2k miles from running too lean for too long.

Is the 2013 taotao speedy 50, same engine ect.. As the taotao ATM50. Any changes or upgrades I need to know about? Thanks There are a ton of upgrades on that can be done & a few i think should be to any of these models of Chinese scoots. Needed when you get one new, all of this is my opinion; New fuel/vac lines! My scoot is only 3 days old & i can see where the lines are starting to fail where the little clamps hold them on. I have helix clear fuel n vac lines on the way. The clear lines will help to see if there are any blockages if you have issues later but not necessary that they have to be clear, just better then what the Chinese use (in other words real fuel lines). New Spark plugs NGK are the preferred ones it seems New Oil, break fluid & gear oil the fluids that come in the scoot are used for shipping & not really meant to be used in rides. New jets in the carb if you will unseal the factory one, if not new carb with proper jetting. The stock carbs & some new replacements are jetted so the bike more often then not runs lean/hot which can cause tons of issues in the future. this of course is for most scoots for specific taotao upgrades the others will need to comment. Don't let it discourage you though, if you do the upgrades & routine maintaince generally you will have a great machine. And there are a ton of things that you can do to make them more peepy.
