Alarm System Removal
I decided to junk my alarm box. I had already removed the speaker/siren from behind the headlight some time ago, since I never use my alarm. I might as well remove the "brain" as well.
For starters, here's the alarm box.
I disconnect these two harnesses. There is also a ground wire that runs to the CVT cover.
Now I remove the 2 bolts holding the alarm bracket and set it aside.
There is also double sided tape on the alarm brain, so it needs to be pryed off. This is/was probably the most secure item on my whole scooter lol.
Now I'm left with this harness (which I have stripped the electrical tape off of).
I know that this connector went to the speaker/siren, so I cut it off. It could simply be tied up out of the way, I just like removing stuff.
With everything just disconnected, others have said that the key would no longer kill the engine, only the kill switch would. I would like to retain full functionality of my ignition switch. I had read that varying scoots have different alarms and connectors and wire colors, but was lucky enough to find Ryan.Ott had posted wire locations for a Triton. He posted that the 2 green wires (solid green, and solid dark green) in these locations could simply be jumped (meaning to make a "jumper" wire that connects the two terminals).
I checked and noticed a dark green wire attached to the CDI and a green wire going into the ignition switch harness. That's a good sign. I couldn't actually trace the wires all the way to these locations without removing nearly all of my body panels and stripping the wrap from most of the harness on the scoot. Instead, I used my multimeter for test for continuity between the terminals and the coil and ignition switch. These appear to be the right wires.
I'm not just going to jump across two terminals, I want to remove some wires, so I pulled these two wires down where I could sit and work, instead of digging around leaned over a scooter.
I cut each wire, leaving enough to work with and stripped the insulation off the ends.
Then I put a little heat shrink over the wires, twisted them together, soldered them, and used a lighter to shrink the tubing.
If you wanted a little extra security, I have another idea for the two wires mentioned above. Instead of soldering them together, you could use a switch to connect them. It would do the same thing as your kill switch. You could hide this one under the scooter or under the seat... anywhere you can get to it reasonably easy but a potential thief would be unlikely to find it.
Now I cut the rest of the harness out, once again leaving a little wire to work with and pulling it down wher I can sit and work.
I made sure all wires were accounted for and used electrical tape on each wire, then bundled them all together.
Then I tied up all my wires to keep things safe and neat. There is a little less mess than before at least.
All of this was removed, plus the speaker/siren at an earlier date.
