Hi, ya'll. Been lurking around for a few days, and I need some help. I have a 2012 sym mio 50cc that recently got rear-ended by a car. I got hit right in the transmission; they managed to dent the clutch and apparently wrecked the motor. My dealership is telling me that sym doesn't sell whole motors, that the parts to repair it will cost as much as the whole scooter, and that they can't use non-sym parts. (Why is that? Are there no other scooters that have a similar enough system that it would be completely incompatible?) So does anyone know if there's a retailer that would sell the parts I need, or if there's non-sym parts that would work on my machine? ...or, alternatively, how much a scooter with no motor would be worth to put on craigslist?

Okay, quick follow-up question: Is there any reason why this motor couldn't be fitted to my scooter? It's compatible with many other 50cc 4 stroke engines so I don't see why not; but to be honest, I don't know a whole lot about mechanics. (although I have been reading a lot of manuals and things since the crash.)

that is an electric starter. Or at least thats what the link took me to..lol...as far as engines go, if your motor is a QMB139 it should be interchangeable with most, i would think. Everything I've learned has came from this site and google..lol...

It's the only thing that came up for 'motor', and browsing through the Sym category, I couldn't find anything resembling the images in the scooter manuals I'd been looking at, so I figured that may have been what my dealership was referring to. (man, I knew I was gonna make a fool of myself on here  )
If not that, then what is this vague 'motor' thing they speak of? Because all that comes up for it anywhere on the online stores I've been to is the electric starter motor.

do you know what kind of engine you have?
it should tell you on the engine itself or like on my scooter there is a plate under the seat that says what type of engine i have...

It's at the shop right now, and neither google nor the owners manual are helping a whole lot, but I am about 80% sure yeah, it's a QMB139.

well ive seen both, i would think its a 139, and those parts are interchangeable so you SHOULD be ok as long is it is in fact a 139 engine. Everythign I've see online is either a 2t or a 139 4t i could find another other engine types for that brand...
