TGB Laser R5Im working on a 2006 TGB Laser R5 with a Franco Morini engine. It runs very well but topped out at mid to high 30MPH and the engine was revving high for the speed. I decided to pull the cvt cover off to look at the vari for restrictions. I found a pretty good one. A big ring around the drive boss about 2-2.5mm wide. It was only using half of the vari face. i know some of the newer ones are also jetted lean as all get go so maybe double check the jetting on it now that its derestricted That's the same restrictor my rally had in it but it measured out at 3.2mm. I've still got it out in the garage. The vari set-up is different than i am used to. OEM 17x13mm 9g rollers Restricted 35-38MPH with a 6mm spacer. Unrestricted with same rollers 50MPH indicated via factory meter. Kickstart assembly bolts to the vari face. The crank/vari nut on these is left hand or reverse thread. The vari is labeled so. The restriction ring. Its a bushing in this case. It was also making the takeoff ratio a tad higher. Thing ended up being 6mm wide As you can see, i have a bandaid on my thumb. The edges on these vari,s are SHARP! I cut my thumb good and didnt even know it until i started seeing blood on my tools. I would strongly suggest a pair of good gloves while working on this. Ive seen the Morini restricted via CDI (rev limit). And now with the vari restricted.

Kymco Super 8 50 2TThe Super 8 comes with a restricted (shouldered) drive boss yes. If the dealer was a good one the scooter should have come with an 82main and the regular drive boss. After you install the drive boss you can remove a couple of restrictions in the airbox and install the 82 main. This will still only yield 35MPH or so out of the scooter. The biggest restriction is the newer style stock exhausts. After derestircting/tuning 2 Super 8,s now i have found this exhaust to be very restrictive. And heavy! We removed the factory Super8 exhaust and installed my older Kymco Cobra factory (non emmision) exhaust off the same style engine and it went to 40+MPH. Another hold back with the Super8 is final drive gears. These scoots are geared very shallow from the factory making them rev pretty high to exceed 45-50MPH. Some of them have a restricted rear pulley over the older models as well.

TGB Key West I have an '04 and an '09. The '04 is restricted in the CDI. You hit about 30 and it cuts out. Disconnect the brown wire and it'll just shut off at about 30. The later CDI is not restricted. I have used one of the blue chinese "performance" blah blah blah CDI's on there, have to build a pigtail or something for the wiring harness and consult wiring diagrams to get the pin out right. The stock Genuine Buddy CDI, I snatched one off a junked bike, is plug and play. Didn't have to do anything. Since the Buddy is a Mina clone bike I assume that type CDI should be easy to find. The Key West isn't like the Eton. It's it's own beast. The engine is a Morini Suzuki clone. I think the only other Asian bike that is similar is the Hyosung.

Daelim CordiREAL restrictors are often attached directly to the drive boss and actually PURPOSELY RESTRICT the variator from fully closing which severely limits top speed. If there's not a thick ring over top of the drive boss that keeps the pulleys (vari) from closing, then it's not a restrictor! Just a shim... Here's an ACTUAL RESTRICTION. If your drive boss looks like this, then it's restricted! This particular restricted boss came out of a Daelim Cordi... 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/11235/flip-2006-daelim-cordi-clone?page=2"I chucked the drive boss up in my drill and went to town on the grinder with my "redneck lathe" and ground the lip off. When I got just about all the way through it, it seperated and came off the boss clean leaving it unscathed. Sweet."
