Hey guys I'm new to the scooter world and I just bought a new TaoTao 50 this weekend and I'm having issues with it already. When i go to start it im supposed to hold down the front brake and then hit the starter switch to start but what is going on is the scooter starts when i just apply the brakes and the starter switch has now use for it. Also when I'm driving it and i brake using either front or rear brake someething starts whinging around the motor i believe its the starter. Does anyone have an idea? Thanks

yeah this happened to me. the wires for the right side control assembly got pinched when i bolted the assembly down which crossed the wires making the starter spin anytime the brake was applied.

to the forum. It sounds like your scooter has a botched wiring job. The brake switches should be inline with the starter button, but they are supposed to be a safety feature only. Check out the pic below . Click to enlarge. It seems like the wire from the relay that should be going to the starter button may actually be going to one side of one of the brake switches or is tied in somewhere it shouldn't be. See if both levers will start it or only one and you might have to do some checking with a multimeter to find out exactly how it's wired.

I took a while to post finding my pic there, but I have seen what 1FAST said as well and didn't think of it. Good suggestion that you should check first.
