I am looking at a 2005 version of one of these for sale locally cheap, but not running. Does anyone know anything about it? I know it is a 2T and it looks like a 1PE40qmb. only showing 5000 on speedo, but i dout that is true. It seems to have compression when i kick it.

Well it's a done deal. I paid too much, but i could not resist. The papers on it are straight, so at least I got that going for me. I should have passed on it because I havent been able to get it to start yet. I think it is low on compression, because it does not create enough vacuum to get gas flowing. since I don't have a compression tester yet, I cannot check it. Spark is good, so I got the carb bowl filled, and sprayed some starting fluid in but I forgot to open the throttle while I was trying  . It sounded like it tried to fire once. The carb is supposed to be new, I pulled it and it is pretty clean. I will try to get it back together this weekend. This scooter is huge compared to my RX8 Yamati, and is in pretty good condition overall.

If the gas is old and rancid it won't fire. Fresh gas might do the trick. You may have rancid gas and a clogged up carb if it's been sitting for a long time.
It's possible the seller isn't being totally up front with you or has no clue about the condition of the engine. There may be there's some top end damage. I had a HZ Minarelli a few years ago I got cheap that had some compression but wouldn't fire. It turned out that the wrist bearing had failed and the metal chunks scored the cylinder wall and f-ed up the piston. New top end cured it.

Nice looking scoot, and most likely a good deal either way. I'd definitely do a compression check though, and despite the new carb, tear it down and make sure it's clean, as well as make sure you drain and refill the tank with fresh gas. How about the filter/petcock? Fuel system and carb was one of the first things I checked with mine when I bought it, I consider it extra insurance no matter what the seller says is good. If in fact the compression is low, it's always a plus when a BBK is in the plans Keep us posted!

I have a compression tester on the way from amazon, I wanted one anyway. It should be here early next week. That gives me time to put the carb back together. I have some questions about the vacuum port and the oil port on the carb. I think i will start a new thread in the 2 stroke area. If in fact the compression is low, it's always a plus when a BBK is in the plans Keep us posted! Aint that the truth!

Great news! The scooter gods have smiled upon me. The compression tester i ordered came today, so I checked the scooter and it reads 140 psi. So i cleaned up the carb, and put it back on the scooter. I sprayed a little starting fluid, and it started right up! I took it for a test ride. No problems that I could notice, other the CVT was a little rough at first, due to having been in storage for so long I suppose. It is a 2004, but only shows 4865 miles on the speedo. The guy I got it from said it had been in storage for most of the time. It has a new battery, and a battery tender installed on it. I ended up going on a 1 1/2 hour cruze, I really like this scooter, it is a 150 sized body with a 50cc engine. The larger size fits my 6' 270 lbs better than a smaller scooter. Got it off of CL for $350.00
