BadBoy still not running from my mud incident. May just need to give up and swap the engine. No biggie. I've been pricing complete engines with carb and transmission for only $250 on the high end. Not bad at all!
And then the other night I had this dream...
In my dream, I had swapped in a 125cc 2-stroke 4 speed fully manual dirt bike motor into my little mini bike.
Results. Were. Awesome! I couldn't give it any throttle in any gear without the front end lifting at least a little. It still seemed geared to top out at about 45 or 50, so it was all torque! brrraaaaaaap!!!
:riding: :wheelie:
Now I'm wondering if it's possible. I definitely want to put in a 2-stroke motor, even if I stick with 49cc. I've been keeping an eye on Craigslist for used KTM 50's. I've seen them as cheap as $500. Not too shabby! Wondering about custom motor mounts and such...
My supermoto is currently out of sorts with transmission slip/grinding issues, so I can't do/buy anything for the BadBoy until I can get that fixed first (I have my priorities). But, anyway, it was a really fun dream. That bike was AMAZING as a converted 125 2-smoker!!

You are one hardcore girl LJ. You managed to thrash both your bikes during the "off" season. LOL

To start, metal fabrication skills and welding ability are a must for about any swap... other than something like the 125 that's the same engine platform with all the same mounts etc...
I really don't know much about MX stuff, but I think most of it is gonna be vertical instead of horizontal. I dunno how well that's gonna work out with the bad boy. You can swap anything in there if you want to bad enough, but I don't think the vertical engines will be easy to work with at all. Hopefully I'm wrong and there are horizontal 2T shifters out there that will swap in easier.

some people put 150cc 4t shifters in those madass type things. those engines are horizontal but sticking one in a scoot is another matter as you would need to add a swing arm or mono-shock.

The cool concept of the scooter design is that the engine IS the swing-arm. An MX swap, IMHO would be near impossible and definitely for a serious fabricator (who owns a machine shop, lol). With an MX, the engine bolts to the frame cradled around it with a separate swing-arm. There would also be a nightmare switching over to chain/sprockets and creating a gear shifter that is in the 16" to 18" range.
Then there's the clutch. I guess you could run a clutch lever and a rear brake lever on the left side (at different angles), just don't pull the wrong one at the wrong time. -)
Would be seriously cool though.

Oh, I doubt it would ever work. The KTM 50 might fit, but even that would require heavy frame modification. It would basically be a new bike. A 125 would NEVER fit (except the horizontal 4Ts, as you guys have pointed out), but it was a really, really fun dream. So much torque in such a tiny frame! Like me! *strikes epic Superwoman pose*
