I have a 50cc E-Ton Beamer II and I work about 20 miles from home. When I leave in the morning with a full tank of fuel when I get to work I am at a half tank and when I return from work I am on "E". This means I am only getting 40 mpg. Aren't these supposed to get double that? I have looked the entire scoot over and I have no leaks. Everything is original and the green wire has been cut. The average speed is around 40 mph. flatland. Any Ideas? or is this normal?

Any Ideas? or is this normal? how much does your tank hold and how far will it go from when you fill it up 100% to when its totally empty? dont go by the gauge...go by what the gas pump says you pumped and distance traveled until the motor shuts off. when my needle gets to 'e' i still have 1/4 tank left. you must go by distance traveled on a known quantity.

Ok I'll try that tomorrow. The tank is 1 and a half gallons.

I have never seen a scooter gas gauge that was 100% linear. meaning i have never seen one that full really meant full and empty really meant empty. Some dont start moving off the full mark until the tank is actually 1/2 full. Some say empty when there is 1/2 tank left. All one can do is learn what the position of your needle means in relation to whats actually in the tank.

so if it was full and you went the 40 miles and it says E how much does it take to get it back to the full mark? 1/2 gallon? more? less? thats how you find out true mpg. fill it up full, ride the 40 miles then fill it back to full and make note of what the pump says when you do so.

Best do it over a few tanks as you can ALWAYS sqeeze a little more gas in that tank and then a little more yet, and that small amount could men a 20 miles or more difference .

The 2Ts don't get the 80+MPG usually that you might see from the 4Ts. Riding style has a huge influence as well. If you ride WOT all the time you aren't going to get great fuel economy. On one of my 90cc 2Ts if I ride it easy and fairly slow... like at legal scooter speeds... I'm easy on the throttle and can get 70MPG. If I run it hard it's more like 50MPG. On my 90cc project I have been recording gas mileage and have seen nearly a 20MPG span on that as well from slow-normal acceleration and riding vs quick and fast riding. Generally the less the throttle is open, the better your gas mileage will be.
I use a GPS and/or a bike speedo as well as the gas pump to calculate my MPG. If your speedometer is off, your calculated MPG will be too.

My MPG on my Cobra has dropped lately. I was getting around 60, now it more like 45-50MPG. Only thing ive changed lately is the clutch springs. Old ones got tired. My top speeds have dropped some too.

Checked the compression lately? Maybe the top end is getting worn?

not jsut the engine but wind can play a big role on mpg and even low tires will effect mpg big time

WOW! I didn't expect that many answers or the different scenario's either. I filled the tank from what was read as "E" and it only took 3/4 gallon to full. So needless to say the gauge is obviously waaaaayyy off. That combined with the fact that about 18 miles of my commute is WOT and out in the open so wind also plays a major factor here in SC. Moral of the story is that I guess my scoot is doing just fine mpg wise, There are just some contributing factors that weren't taken into account when I originally asked my question. I thank all who took time to answer me.

so if the tank is 1.5 gallons....it still had half a tank left. yeah scoot gas gauges are crazy lol
A windshield will increase your performance, driveability and MPG also. A windshield is the best addition money can buy for any scooter IMO. All 3 of my personal scooters have windshields.
